I would say there is a hard core of around 4,000 home supporters, but of those some wouldn't be that committed. You can add in a few day trippers who wouldn't ordinarily go who might fancy going to Old Trafford, but with it being a Sunday and not a Holiday weekend, I think 3,000. But we will never know.

What about all the displaced Orient supporters who can't normally make it to London on a Saturday? They would far outnumber the amount of the 4,000 London/Essex based hardcore who wouldn't make the trip.

And there will be plenty of people who might make the odd game throughout the season who would make an effort to go. If it was say 8,000 going to Cardiff for a play off final, then I would expect less for the FA Trophy final in say Manchester. My point (long lost) was that I don't think Fylde will have much support because of the distance.

We took about 10,000 to the Millennium Stadium in 2001 - total attendance that day was 23,600 and a Blackpool Gazette report says they took 13,000 fans.

When I was a young man about town, I would usually be doing other things on a Saturday afternoon than standing in the rain, watching a 0-2 defeat against Rochdale. So I only went 4/5 times a season. I imagine most of the 21k are the same to a greater or lesser extent. Others will just fancy a jolly to Wembley with their mates.

Of course now I'm old and have nothing better to do, I have a season ticket.

Fylde isn't a town though - it's a district, which includes Lytham St Anne's, where the majority of these 78k people live. Most of the football supporters there (either casual or serious) would support Blackpool (or Manchester United etc), which is also quite likely true of all the places in the district of Fylde (e.g. Wesham, where Fylde AFC is based, population: 3,245).

I think you're right that they'd double (or nearly double) the number if it was held in Manc or Lpool, but it still wouldn't be very many
