These figures need to be taken in context with football attendances nationally

The owners have done well to increase the average attendance but I feel that we need to get things back on track as far as home performances as concerned to retain some of these fans.

Thanks for this info, it’s very interesting and makes a nice change from some of the tedious threads dominating this forum

And, I must add, it doesn’t really have to be taken in context as ruled on by our learned barista.

I still believe that we can fill this ground and more once the standard of football improves (league 2 top of, league, then the championship) rather than style. We are well positioned to continue to grow as a club in what is a growing borough.

Gilso's right. Although I cannot condone the borough expanding its borders without its neighbouring boroughs consenting that would be illegal. Apparently that sort of expansion happened in Europe years ago. Gilso is an expert on that era so should be able to tell us more.

I am not Andy Gilson, please stop the vilification of me. I saw your post on another thread and that's not something I want to be associated with.

We can disagree about politics, football whatever, but I'm not Gilso.

Thank you.

Ling’s first full season in charge, League Two, finished 11th. Not sure why attendances were so low. Was that when some of the new stands were being built, limiting capacity?

The average will fall between now and the next football for a fiver game in March. Take out Scunthorpe and Walsall and that will be a truer reflection. Also no local opposition to bolster attendances as there won't be many travelling fans. Cambridge & Colchester aren't that close and neither are big clubs with averages less than Orient's. And there are more midweek games where attendances are lower especially if Newport progress in the cup. And no title winning end of season game. Suspect it will be less than 5,000 at season's end.

Yes, that was the season the West and North stands were built, so for most of the season we only had 2 stands in use.

I can't disagree with Spen on this.

I've done some Excelling and compared our attendances with the average of L1 & L2 combined. We fare worse than the average.

Colchester is a simple 40 minute train ride away.

In terms of away fans travelling to Brisbane Road they have one of the easiest trips in the league. Really strange comment.

And today will probably have the largest away following of the season, so probably just 6,000 all told

All credit to those concerned with increasing attendances and for those who caused the event to happen. However for this curve to continue to the upside I feel that performances and the associated personell need to follow a similar trajectory...

We only had 2 stands that year as the West side was being rebuilt - no pay on the day that season, all games were all ticket.

Colchester being a 40 minute train ride away isn't a lot of use on Boxing Day.

With more flats going up all over the place locally the opportunity to attract new fans should be there. However it's miniscule compared to the number of new places going up in E15 and E20 right on the doorstep...of another team. However a marketing push all over their new patch might pull in some new fans who don't want to watch football through a pair of binoculars.

This is a good point, also I went through Docklands on the DLR recently and it’s incredible the number of flats being built or have been built and are now occupied. If only 1% are Footy fans and come along to Brisbane Road then our fan base should really grow. Kent Teague told me that Flats will be built on the ‘Score Centre’ opposite the ground and the club saw this as a real opportunity for fan base growth in the future.
Of course West Ham will attract many fans, but I went to a game at West Ham last season I could certainly have done with some binoculars to see what was happening at the far end of the pitch.
Hopefully Danny Macklin’s team will be exploring these opportunities.

Only 3 clubs have better average attendance.

I didn`t know that.

Our attendances have stood up very well and this been a great success for Danny Macklin and the board.
Unfortunately the product ie home games has been very poor this season and it will be interesting to see how Nigel, Kent and Danny try to get fans to re-new for next season and that’s providing we don’t go down.
No Home wins for over 3 months won’t entice many to part with their cash, hopefully things will improve.
