The True Effects of Austerity

Post by Clive Evans »

BBC main one o clock news story saying McCann, worst serial rapist this country has ever known, should never have been released. The overstretched overworked authorities released him from jail by mistake. They knew all about his dangerous potential. All down to cuts in prison staff & probation service, not to mention PRIVATISATION of the probation service. Read about and be alarmed. It could have been your wives and children he attacked. Still think BOJO and the Nasty Party are good chappies?

I've been saying on this board for a long time that we need tougher sentences. That the person should serve their full sentence in my personal view and be subjected to proper punishment for the crime (time served).

He is a vile man and scum like him should not be walking the streets.

Shame he was released while those in the
Conservative Government did little to keep him there.

The person responsible has been demoted due to his decision to release him early.

The courts take into account early release when sentencing. So if a judge gives a sentence of 2 years he knows defendant will be released after 1 year.

The early release at 1\2 way is designed to incentivise prisoners to behave in prison.

If you abolished early release per we, then prisoners would simply get shorter sentences. It's a matter of packaging as nothing would change

All that said, automatic release at 1\2 way point is stupid and it's now been changed to require a positive decision of the parole board. This must be right. It gives prisons some control over suspect.

With someone like this bloke, with hi Dwight it's clear he would be dangerous even if he had served the full term imposed. You can't keep someone on a determinative sentence in custody after term has expired. Was there sufficient previously to give him an indeterminate sentence & was that available for. Offence he was previously sentenced for.

It's always easy to be wise with hindsight & if we could predict the future accurately we would all be lottery winners

Any rapists or murderers, especially ones who commit multiple offences, should spend the rest of their lives in prison. After all, their victims and families suffer for the rest of their lives, so why shouldn't they? No parole. So what if the prisons are poo poo, serves them right.

If that had been in place, it would not have applied to McCann as he up until today had not been convicted of either of the offences you mention.

It's not as easy an issue to deal with. You cant lock up without parole anyone who breaks any law. It's not easy to predict what people will do in the future. Look at the 2 convicted murderers who went the other way and last week tackled that terrorist. Who would have predicted 2 of those brave people last week were murderers.

It's not a simple problem to solve

What on earth does this have anything to do with austerity. More like incompetence.

Lots of extra tax needs to be raised to do that
Are the Tory Party willing to raise taxes or
would they have to put the country in more debt?

Austerity was following previous Labour govt busting the nation's finances. Now Corbyn wants to go even further, how anyone could vote for that I don't know.

But, no matter how overworked or under pressure you are. If you are making decisions that could affect many people's lives, you do so with caution and always refer upwards if not sure. Administrative mistakes are not acceptable if you are dealing with people's lives.

This is why surgeons have an arrow written on the patient on the side to operate. Otherwise, wrong knees, hips and kidneys will be removed.

My life experience is probably very different to yours, which is why you think that I do not seem to be a 2+2=4 type of person.
