My son lives just outside Cork, in Blarney - castle, stone, mills etc. A good trip. My favourite is Cobh which saw the Titanic call in to pick up passengers and mail. The White Star ticket office is a great Titanic experience. Live music in abundance - doesn't get going until late though.

The English Market is definitely worth a look
Pairc Uí Chaoimh,
Cork is a really nice but small city .

If you want to see some Real Irish History.
Take a trip to West Cork .
Great Hotel called the Celtic Ross .

Visit Drombeg stone circle .
3000+ year old if i remember rightly.
Clonakilty, Lisavaird , Sams cross , woodfield farm
All connected to Michael Collins .
Place of Birth schooled etc.

Rosscarberry the place where Tom Barry lived after the war of independance
A man from 1 of Corks Flying Columns , who also fought in The 1st world war for Britain.

Skibbereen Home rown of O'donovan Rossa & memorial to collins rossa & Barry

Lots of History around the area .

Castlefreke , an old ruin of a castle when i was a kid
But since had a major facelift . Its a home again now so not open to the public .

Galleyhead lighthouse. A wee visit to Glandore is a great little place to
( especially the drive , hold on to your heart )

Theres is a cracking coastal walk at warren beach around to Owenahincha beach ( where i spent summer holidays visiting grandparents).

The drive from Cork City is about an hour
And you get to see the stunning scenery as you drive alongside the River Bandon.

You'd be mad to miss Mizen Head as well

My son had his wedding reception in the Celtic Ross and was married in the church in Roscarberry. Make sure you try the black and white pudding from Klonakilty.

Clonakilty Black pudding was originally made by my
Great Grandmother Johanna O'Brien ( michael Collins )
Grandmother at the farm at Sams Cross , before she sold the Recipe to the Butchers .
Its fantastic stuff.
I used to spend the odd sunday in Rosscarberry Church
And the church hall many an evening for live music .

Nearly forgot
St Fachtnas Cathedral & St Fachtnas college .
1 of the oldest churches & schools in ireland .

In fact its where i heard that Elvis had died & we told tje guy doing a gig there . An Elvis medley followed .

Also do Glengarriff upto Killarney if you can .& dont forget to kiss the Blarney stone while you are in cork.

Kinsale is really nice but quite touristy.

The Young Offenders on I Player is a fine travelogue on Cork life.

Its a great city for live music, arts and theatre.
Its a bit ugly in my opinion and as stated above the beauty is in the county rather than the City.
I hope to move to Cork City when I retire.

As said, the English Market is a fantastic place to visit. The whole place is packed with produce of every description.
If you can, get a loaf of soda bread, the Irish soda bread is the best in the world.
