Unai Emery: Arsenal sack boss after 18 months in charge

Post by Sid Bishop »

Surprise news, Unai Emery: Arsenal sack boss after 18 months in charge.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50532493

Unai Emery has been sacked as Arsenal manager after 18 months in charge.
The Spaniard, who previously led Paris St-Germain to the French league title and won three Europa Leagues with Sevilla, was appointed Gunners boss in May 2018, succeeding Arsene Wenger.
He is to be replaced on a temporary basis by assistant and former Arsenal midfielder Freddie Ljungberg.
Arsenal said the decision had been "taken due to results and performances not being at the level required".

Well could happen but I would think unlikely that Pochettino is the next Arsenal manager.
For a start, I am guessing that he will be in no hurry to take on another Managers job so soon after being sacked by Tottenham, time to collect his money owing and take a break to recharge his batteries. Plus he would come to Arsenal as a Manager who up to now, has won no trophies. Will be interesting as to who does get the Arsenal job, so many names have been mentioned as possible next managers.

Whatever happened to the rule against tapping up another clubs manager without that clubs permission?

All the stories re Wolves manager being who Arsenal want seem to be an attempt to use the media to tap him up. Where do media get the story that Arsenal want him?

Yes indeed what happened to that rule !
Problem with being interested in the Wolves manager is that its a case of doing well managing at a smaller club with the main aim being of managing to stay in the Premier League as against doing the business at a huge club like Arsenal where the expectation levels are so much higher and if yearly trophies are not achieved, then you are judged as having failed in the job !

I was not for one minute endorsing Wolves manager for job. It was the extraordinary tapping up of him on TV and radio this week that caught my eye.

I do say your views re the "problem". He wouldn't have been my first choice if I had to pick the next Arsenal manager
