Agreed.RedO wrote: ↑Thu Nov 28, 2019 10:53 am Of course he should 'face him'.
Just as he should face the other leaders in the climate debate.
I understand why he's bottling these things (or has been advised to bottle them), I'm simply stating it's not the right way to go about an election campaign. A leader should be able to state his case and make his point in such interviews and debates.
The fact that the Dimwit electorate can't see through this is the issue here.

Whereas if what spen says is correct, then it's a clever move from the tories as boris as has been pointed out on here many times a blusterer. He cant get pilloried if hes not be interviewed.
Would the response from the right wing bigots have been the same if the magic grandpa had bottled out of an interview or a debate? Don't be such a bunch of hypocrites.
Bottling this interview just sums up the tories approach to democracy and this whole election campaign. It's tragic.
He hasn't bottled out of an interview as one was never arranged.
To agree to an interview, then cancelling it is bottling it.
After seeing the result of AN interviewing JC, and sensible politician would want to avoid being interviewed by AN to avoid risk of another car crash.

What is wrong?
There was not an interview arranged - FACT
Are you truly suggesting any sensible politician would deliberately choose to do a car crash interview with AN after having seen what he did to JC?

Johnson has nothing to gain and everything to lose being interviewed by AN. Having seen the mess he made of Corbyn and Sturgeon why would be. Yes, it makes him look cowardly, absolutely, but in the long run that will be less damaging than the Corbyn’esque car crash.
Politics.

Yes, obviously that's what has happened - his team have decided to hide him away and bottle the interviews and debates and public meetings having decided that is less 'damaging'. What a way to run an election campaign.
Compare and contrast to Jezza who is happy to be interviewed by whoever and debate with anyone. Because he believes in what he's saying and knows it's the right way to go about things.

So, you can't actually disagree with my post and resport to the usual tactic of those with no response of insulting the poster?
Are you afraid of the result of the election?
The question of whether it is the right way to go about things will be decided on december 12th. If people agree with JC he will be Prime Minister (stop laughing everyone...) and if people agree with BJ he will be the PM

The right way of doing things is a variable when you are trying to persuade the voters.
The politicians are competing to win the General Election. You may want Politicians to do car crash TV interviews, but whether the rest of the public do will determine the outcome of the election.
if enough people thing BJ should have been interviewed by AN then they will vote against him...unless of course they don't think it important...in which case not being interviewed was the right thing as it got him elected.
alternatively if JC is elected PM, then clearly doing TV car crash interviews is the right thing to do

I'm terrified at the prospect of a tory government taking this country over the cliff. Any right minded individual should be. Sadly, the electorate is not full of right minded individuals, which takes me back to the original point we were having so much fun debating back and forth - just because a load of Dummies may be happy for Boris to bottle out on interviews and debates and public meetings, it doesn't mean that it's right. It's clearly not.spen666 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 28, 2019 12:52 pm

Call me old fashioned but yes, I want my politicians to be open to questioning and available to debate, rather than hiding away. 'Right' is a fundamental that doesn't change.

Agree with this post totally. As mentioned, unfortunately we're dealing with the general public, a general public who's no.1 daily rag for example is the s*n. Therefore, I gave up hope a long time ago. The election doesn't revolve around you and your wants.
There are many different ways to get messages across and TV interviews are merely one way.
The Right way is the one that works.
If right is a fundamental thing that doesn't change, then how come before about 1926 there were no TV interviews as there was no TV? Clearly what is "right" in your view has changed

A google search for the definition of 'right' brings up
- that which is morally correct, just, or honourable.
- a moral or legal entitlement to have or do something.
The behaviour of Boris and his team, should he continue to bottle out of these events, is none of those things. I understand that these concepts may be alien to a legal professional, so do apologise. I also accept that bottling out may be the most successful tactic in terms of winning, or not losing, votes. But that doesn't mean it's right.

Proves my point - if Boris wins the election, then his style of campaigning is just as it produced the desired result
Seems that you are trying to make excuses already for the result and that its about the taking part not the winning

The other side of that is BJ has the good judgement not to risk a car crash interview unlike JC who showed a lack of judgement in voluntarily subjecting himself to that car crash interview.
Clearly the public should trust BJ who exhibited far better judgement

That is why he has refused to appear on LBC Radio since becoming Labour Leader.....strange that isn't it?
You talk about trust as opposed to judgement. Lets see what the voters think on 12th December
