Old football clips

Post by F*ck The Poor & Fat »

Browsing through YouTube. Came across 3 minutes of the Oxford game. Brought back fantastic memories, especially the roar of us fans, not for the Oxford game but the Grimsby game goal. Followed a few seconds later by the Steele winner. Apparently 14 seconds in total.

Probably the most amazing 14 seconds of my 60 odd years watching Orient.

Mrs dOh with me that day, I didn’t feel stupid as a grown man crying. Anybody at that game will know what a game of emotions it was for both sets of fans.

I was there with my dad who is sadly no longer with us and my eldest son and my dads friend. It is a day and an event that will stay with me forever. The emotions of that day, the highs, the lows the jubilation and then the Steele winner is something that I’ll never forget. The first time I’d seen orient promoted, the fans reaction, the noise and the happiness, a special happiness that only football can give. That day was one of if not the great days of supporting the o’s.

I still can't believe Steelo wasn't offside from SGA's pass. Never mind, my son and I were at the Kassam that day, we were singing
all the way home.

I had three tickets for the game, Mrs dOh, me and my son. Late on he decided, after discussions with his wife, not to come with us. Something we both have always regretted. I would have loved to share that day with my lad. I still have his ticket unused somewhere with the matchday programme.

Superstition Sid. Back then I didn’t see every game. I saw 10 at home, 5 losses and 5 draws. But none of the previous 10 wins. I was convinced if I went we would draw or lose. Stupid, but there you are. Strangely I saw a few away games which we all won. Still superstitious regarding football to this day.

Yes I knew that, you have said that before, but look on the bright side, you did not go to the final match and the Os won, so in a way, in your mind the superstition worked, you did not go and we won and got promoted, so as a youngster you self sacrificed yourself for the team ...and the team won !!
