Uber Stripped of its License
It's being reported that TFL have withdrawn the licence for uber to operate in london. It was found that 14,000 journeys were made with a driver not who the passenger expected it to be. Invalid insurance was also a concern.
I was at a black taxi testing centre last week with a friend who runs his own black taxi rental company and the tester was speaking to him and told him that an uber that was being checked last week when he was there by TFL people was a car made up of three different sections. The right hand side of the car was actually a foot longer than the left hand side. That is outrageous.

How on earth would that vehicle get an MOT stiff ticket let alone insuranceThor wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2019 3:35 pm It's being reported that TFL have withdrawn the licence for uber to operate in london. That’s not only outrageous, that’s physically impossible. Sounds like total ballbags to me. As someone who used to deal with ringers / cut and shuts, this is not possible.

There are alot of bent testers out there. I'll give you another example.point nine one eight wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2019 3:41 pmHow on earth would that vehicle get an MOT stiff ticket let alone insuranceThor wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2019 3:35 pm It's being reported that TFL have withdrawn the licence for uber to operate in london. A man brought in an e class Mercedes and it failed the tfl test when it returned the odometer had not increased 1 mile and the mot showing it had passed had an mileage of 45,000 when the real mileage was 95,000. It's a proper scandal out there at present. It was failed again and reported.

All I'm repeating is what the tester was telling my mate, as last week there were loads of people with measuring equipment etc around the car. This is what he said, I kid you not.Father Ted Crilly wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2019 3:52 pmSounds like total ballbags to me. As someone who used to deal with ringers / cut and shuts, this is not possible.

Any road vehicle with one side one foot longer than the other would be a dead giveaway and would be near impossible to steer round a bend.

A foot longer! That’s stretching it just a bit too much.Thor wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2019 3:35 pm It's being reported that TFL have withdrawn the licence for uber to operate in london. Re: Uber Stripped of its License
Yeah, but how did they get the data to come to this figure.
Its not something you would expect to find recorded anywhere

Correct.Prestige Worldwide wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2019 5:45 pm Of course its recorded, the whole Uber system is electronic.
When I put my car in for its taxi test I try to make sure Willie the b*stard isn't on that day. He once failed me because the indicator bulb wasn't orange enough. Bigot.

Re: Uber Stripped of its License
Given their systems are automated and assuming the data logged is accurate, and without knowing the details of their database, this statistic should be very easy to prove or disprove. If it cannot be proven then Uber are innocent until proven guilty.Prestige Worldwide wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2019 5:45 pm Of course its recorded, the whole Uber system is electronic.
Are we to assume TfL got full access to their database and had the opportunity to develop programmes to establish this number. Or is it just an estimate based on a small sample that were reviewed. I suspect the latter.
It will be interesting to see how this pans out.

Re: Uber Stripped of its License
Doh tfl found people had no insurance, no Uber licence or whatever it is they need to register with tfl, convicted people driving, no actual driving licence. It’s absolute madness that it’s been allowed to happen.dOh Nut wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2019 6:02 pmGiven their systems are automated and assuming the data logged is accurate, and without knowing the details of their database, this statistic should be very easy to prove or disprove. What’s good though is tfl is cracking down on them.

Re: Uber Stripped of its License
Don’t disagree. As far as I’m concerned the authorities should clamp down hard on anybody driving an unsafe vehicle full stop. Add to that untaxed and uninsured. It’s not only passengers that get killed. Not questioning this, just interested in where the numbers come from.Thor wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2019 9:03 pmDoh tfl found people had no insurance, no Uber licence or whatever it is they need to register with tfl, convicted people driving, no actual driving licence. Good decision TfL. If this saves one woman from being murdered or raped by an Uber driver then it would have been worth it.

Re: Uber Stripped of its License
The decision is just to steer the flack from the black cabbies away from Tfl and towards the legal system.
Even if Uber do lose their licence, there are numerous other similar app based companies that will simply take on the drivers, with the downside being that I fully suspect that these other companies haven't the same checks that Uber have imposed (even though I agree that Ubers checks are not as stringent as they should).
