Stating the obvious?
Hello all, I'm new here.
Apologies if this is so obvious as to be borderline stupid, but I see a lot of arguments on here as to what's going wrong, and maybe all of them are true to some extent (there are rarely simple, single issues when a team effort throws up repeated failure).
That said, there's one thing that stands out for me: Goals Against tally (34) is abysmal -- only Morecambe, rock bottom, have conceded more, at 35GA.
When the forwards are fit, things look OK goal-wise (Goals For tally (26) is equal to or better than 18 teams in the league, and better than two of the teams in the top four).
I ask this with genuine curiosity, because I don't know that much about football tactics, I just like watching it: is the fact that Orient are conceding an absolute boatload of goals something that can be easily fixed? If you were in charge, how would you sort it, and how long do you think it would take?
Thanks for having me and up the O's!

Practice defending set pieces more often. Drop Ling. Start Turley and Happe.

It's good to see Turley back, for sure. He seems pretty... robust?BiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2019 12:38 pm Practice defending set pieces more often. Drop Ling. Start Turley and Happe.

Re: Stating the obvious?
Seem to recall Coulson being pretty handy last year, including scoring quite a few important goals. Do you think something in his performance has changed, or is it about the level of League 2 oppoisition vs NL?
Is an entire new midfield even possible? (Genuinely asking -- in addition to not really understanding football tactics, I don't really understand how football clubs are run.)

Yeah, I'm a lurker by nature I suppose.BiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2019 12:52 pm What's all this about? You joined in April and decided to post today that you're new here.
Probably the two main reasons I've not posted is that:
-- I don't really know what I'm talking about (as I've already admitted)
-- This messageboard seems a bit hostile at times, so I thought I'd save myself the bother of being told where to go for the crime of trying to learn a bit.

Interesting to see how this alias develops.
Anyways, the two main things that need to happen are:
1) Recruit a goalie that commands his six yard box and comes for crosses and is mobile.
2) Recruit a midfielder that can give the back four some protective cover.

That all makes sense, cheers. Have seen some criticism of Brill (and watched a few mistakes) but the specifics are helpful.

Re: Stating the obvious?
I would also try to recruit a specialist Defensive coach who would just work on defending set pieces etc
My current back Four would be
Turley Ekpiteta ( why wasn’t he playing on Saturday) Happe Widdowson
Also a new Keeper. Brill has done well in the past two years but we need a younger more agile keeper.

Re: Stating the obvious?
When everyone if fit, yeah, I'd go Turley Marvin Happe Widdowson as our first choice back four.
