Change of Law needed at Corners?

Post by spen666 »

Today in the 2nd half at every corner, Angol stood in front of their keeper, pushing him and generally obstructing him. There was also the FGR number 3 involved trying to stop Angol obstructing the keeper.

Now nearly every team do this at corners, so this is not a dig at Orient or Angol.

This season, a new law prevents an attacking player from standing within a set distance of a defensive wall at a free kick.

I can see a similar law being introduced in the future at Corners to stop this deliberate obstructing of goalkeepers

The law was enforced last season concerning holding at corners, looks like that's been quietly binned and is not encouraged to be enforced this season.

Having a no go-zone around a goalkeeper is a ridiculous idea, all that would happen at every corner the keeper would move closer to an opposing player and claim his personal space was being violated and he would need councelling to get over it.

I remember the days when you could barge the goalkeep into the net with the ball firmly in his grasp and it counted as a goal score. What has happened to our beautiful game?

It works with the wall at free kicks, so why can't it work with a goalkeeper at corners.

It would stop a lot of the wrestling at corners

The commitment shown by Ebou Adams today when he absolutely poleaxed Brill was nice to see.

Didn't go in with his arms or elbows, just a proper solid dedication to get to the ball.

And to think the North Stand wanted him to get a straight red for it!! Brill should have come out taken that ball and cleaned out whoever challenged him, not the other way around!

Also according to North stand there was aaout 12 handballs in the box.

The wall doesn't move, hence its name, whereas a keeper is free to wander so do you expect everyone to keep their distance as he moves around?

I agree with your general point though.

Jack Charlton center half brother of Bobby Charlton, leeds United and England, World Cup winner lives on at every corner with this superb tactic, has also been alledged to stand on keepers toes at said corners. I suppose if your 6ft 4 or 5 inches then it's a bit difficult to see your feet when your so far away from them, long may it continue.

Another old tactic was marking a forward, then stopping him jumping by pushing your knee behind his knees, it works, an old pro told me that one !

Not a comment on the topic as such but last season we did well with near post corners with Bonne flicking on. don't think we tried that at all yesterday

Get over it. Calling for law changes because you don’t like something is laughable.

Erm, I haven't called for a new law at all.

I have suggested one may be introduced.

Dont let facts get in the way of your trolling

Like dis said and like I've said already, the law is there, it just needs to be enforced. It's as simple as that.

to be fair to referees, its almost impossible to enforce as the referee can't tell who has done what with all the pushing and shovinh
