Playing players out of position
For various reasons, the club is playing a fair few players out of position this season
Mainly because injuries and suspension has robbed us of the first choice, but you could make a reasoned argument that the club didnt buy correctly, or enough players during the summer.
Players will always try their best, whatever position the manager asks them to play, but the fans can see in no time the guy isnt playing at his best
The best example I can think of, off the top of my head, was john Marquis.
When he was here , he didnt score many goals, because it seemed he was always playing out of position. Since he left us, he has scored hatfuls of goals, because he was played as a centre forward....his best position.
Louis Dennis isnt a striker...he's a winger, but because we havent had Angol or Wilko available to us, hes had to play there. If we had got rid of Alabi ( like Justin wanted to do), and replaced him with another competent striker, Im sure we would have scored a few goals these last four or five games.
Orient isnt well run im afraid, despite all the #our club propaganda stuff emanating from the club on a daily basis
Unless a few players with more quality that we have at present , are brought in, in January, we will continue to struggle every week.
Players need to play in their best & natural positions

Bit of an overreaction to suggest we're not well run because of a few injuries isnt it?

Re: Playing players out of position
You know Louis Dennis has played as a striker before, at other clubs, right? You know that John Marquis has absolutely nothing to do with the current set up, right?
(Dan Happe at left back would have been a better example)

I agree that we could have bought more but perhaps it just isnt feasible to have 2 players for each position?ComeOnYouOs wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2019 12:10 pmIf you genuinely think that was my only point.............well nevermind I'll leave it therePrestige Worldwide wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2019 11:05 am Bit of an overreaction to suggest we're not well run because of a few injuries isnt it?

Re: Playing players out of position
If a first team player is out injured and all we have is a youngster in that position e.g. left back, i'd much rather we played them than someone out of position. I can't believe Ogie or Sweeney hasn't had more game time with Widdowson out. What's the point of having them here if we're not going to play them. Might as well send them out on loan.

Absolutely. This is the dichotomy of the academy players...Adz wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2019 9:27 pm If a first team player is out injured and all we have is a youngster in that position e.g. left back, i'd much rather we played them than someone out of position. - they're either not good enough to play, so shouldn't be in the squad and we need senior pros to come in and provide the cover (we know the youth sometimes only get contracts to keep the U23 vultures at bay for a while)
or
- they're good enough and just need game time, which they'll only get by playing. As above surely a natural LB got to be a better bet than a CB out of position
In the end I guess it's the easy way out for Ross to satisfy all the "names" as he has to get Ekpiteta, Coulson and Happe in there somehow to keep them happy. After all we know what happens to the manager when player power kicks in.

Then you could have worked out how many extra players we could get in before we broke FIFA fair play rules.

'Orient isn't well run'. Christ, COYOS has always been a strange one but Lord have mercy, we're probably in the top 10-15 best run clubs in the EFL at present.

Orient not a well run club?
You are an odd ball it’s a very well run club imo is it because it doesn’t run to your liking you say this
Call yourself a supporter but all you do is slate the club at any given opportunity
Maybe take up bingo or something
Re: Playing players out of position
I agree that Leyton Orient appears to be a well run club financially, although we do seem to be reliant on Kent Teague's millions.
I do think, however, that this season we have let sentimentality take over from hard business (and football) decisions. If it is true that Fletcher was sacked because he wanted to make unpopular changes to the coaching and playing staff, then this is not sensible. We cannot remain the same team as we were when we won promotion and Edinburgh was here, we have to move on.
