All that talk about shoes not fitting is a load of old cobblers.

I suspect Ling’s shoe fitted quite nicely up Fletcher’s arse as he was shown the door!

I thought is was a very honest interview and one where he didn’t try to hide away. Respect. That had to be very difficult.

Let’s hope that as mentioned in the interview, lessons are learnt from this debacle when it comes to appointing a replacement.

An excellent quote in my opinion. Though easier said than done. It’s not what happens that always matters but how you deal with it: is another I like along similar lines (Anthony Robbins)

I was actually going to use the word ethos earlier. Thanks Martin. The Ethos of the club that in the last 25 years has got us precisely nowhere. Have you thought that the ethos of the club might be the problem. That it’s all a bit, oh I don’t know, incestuous.

Props for fronting up and all but acknowledges what had been said elsewhere that Fletcher just never got anyone on side. The players didn't take to him or his methods, neither did the staff and us fans took an almost instant dislike to him due to the insipid style of football and positivity draining public persona.

Hard to remember anyone joining our club who appeared to disliked by so many.Eat The Rich wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2019 10:09 pm Props for fronting up and all but acknowledges what had been said elsewhere that Fletcher just never got anyone on side. The players didn’t want to play for him, allegedly, and this to me sets a slightly dangerous precedent. What happens if the next
Head Coach / Manager isn’t liked by the players, do we continue to fall down the league ??
Ling obviously made a huge error in employing him but it may be interesting to hear Fletchers side of what was going on behind the scenes.
We certainly couldn’t continue with the way things were going and it’s good that the board have acted so decisively and now we need to get behind Ross and the team on Saturday.

Re: Martin Ling Interview - Carl Fletcher’s Sacking
Well I'm sure he'd say that the players and staff shunned him from day one and refused to give him a chance. I guess its possible, if you're getting the cold shoulder from everyone it must be next to impossible to get your ideas across and get the players playing for you but the thing is I don't believe that the entire staff, playing and backroom, would be so unbelievably petty and arbitrary. The players want to do well, the staff seem to love the club and want it to do well. I can only come down on the side of Fletcher just not being a terribly inspiring or convincing manager. It probably doesn't take seasoned professionals long to work out when their boss doesn't know what the f*ck he's doing. Pretty much like the rest of us. They've just worked under a really inspiring leader in JE and then they're confronted with. . . Carl Fletcher. Its a bit of a departure.Cheshunto wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2019 10:27 pmHard to remember anyone joining our club who appeared to disliked by so many.Eat The Rich wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2019 10:09 pm Props for fronting up and all but acknowledges what had been said elsewhere that Fletcher just never got anyone on side. Re: Martin Ling Interview - Carl Fletcher’s Sacking
If I was a gambling man, which I’m not, I don’t reckon it was the players that refused to give him a chance.
I can see the exact same thing happening again if we don’t get someone who’s experienced enough to take on and win over the coaching team.

Re: Martin Ling Interview - Carl Fletcher’s Sacking
I agree with that.
If Fletch fell out with Ross or Webb, who are the players gonna side with? It's a tough call for any outsider. The easy answer is to get someone who won't fall out with the existing backroom, but as Fletcher just showed that might be difficult to predict from an interview when people are on their best behaviour and emotions are not running high.....
I think we should not waste more money on managers this season unless we get really bad....with Felch gone I think the squad will revert to type (bad defensively but will get enough goals and points to stay clear)
Come the summer though we need a huge rebuild, been too many errors this season. Yes there are testing circumstances but the bigger ones (Fletcher, dishing out 2 year deals so early) had nothing to do with it.

Re: Martin Ling Interview - Carl Fletcher’s Sacking
Seems part of Fletcher has transferred into "you know" Ling
So that's Embleton pretty much confirmed for rest of the season, I guess the players and coaches are happy now they've got what they wanted

Re: Martin Ling Interview - Carl Fletcher’s Sacking
I agree with you.
It’s interesting that on the Orient hour they said that he distanced himself from the coaching team and players, did not say anything to the team at half time on Sun and probably nothing after the game as the players were up in the legends lounge within 15 mins. If he has been conducting himself in an aloof manner then there is your answer, no rapport with the players or coaches and if that happens it’s hard to buy in to what he wanted to do. It was said that he did not let the coaches coach either. Pretty damming there too, especially if the players rate the coaches and all of a sudden they’ve been sidelined, loyalty is earned as is respect and I suspect he got neither due to his demeanour if what is said was true of course.
