Team for Sunday
Wouldn't it be refreshing to see this positive line up :
Brill GK (sorry Sargeant but still not totally convinced penalty saves or not.)
Turley/Marv RB (feel so much safer at the back with either of these two - Maldon have scored 53 goals...
Coulson CB solid
Happe solid
Widdowson LB Ok(at least he's not being asked to play as a left wing back which he clearly can't neither defending nor attacking in that negative surrender 5 at the back system.)
Maguire Drew RW (lets get the skillful payers back in the team and ATTACK. A few nice crosses into Harrold and we should be 3 up by half time).
Wright CM OK . Missing Jobi
Clay CM OK league two midfielder
Brophy LW - what on earth was he doing on the right against Brighton ?!! Wasted . Major threat running down the left wing. Can't play anywhere else )
Dennis F (No - he's not Angol or Wilkinson but hopefully the goal against Brighton may give him confidence to have more composure in front of goal
Harrold F (As a 35 year old he would be thankful to have a strike partner rather than face a lone battle against 4 defenders)
Subs Sargent, Judd, Ogie, Marsh, Gorman, Kyprianou Dayton, Soitrou (oh no - hes been loaned out to Dover when our two strikers are injured !)
This line up would worry me as the opposing manager as it shows attacking intent. If Fletcher sticks with one man upfront and leaves out Dennis and Maguire Drew and Brophy - all our forwards basically - then I for see carnage. He got beaten by Stourbridge while at Plymouth so has previous. Surely, he can't play with one up one up front against mighty Maldon can he and invite trouble ??...

Need to save Alabi for the leasing.com trophy if we scramble through. He looks half decent against 16 year olds .

Re: Team for Sunday
Possible 451. Reading between the fuzzy lines of the Fletch interview we can expect goals from everywhere so one up front. I assume he meant goals for us.

If we continue to play with only one up front when Angol and Wilkinson are both fit again I won't be very impressed.

Re: Team for Sunday
It’s the formation that most suits the players we have. I’d imagine not having a mobile striker fit is hindering the way he wants to play with them.

Re: Team for Sunday
Until we sign a decent ball-winning CM to play alongside Wright in a 4-4-2 the 4-3-3 / 4-5-1 is about all we can do. At least it's not the negative 5-3-2, glad to see the back of that.BiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2019 1:08 pmIt’s the formation that most suits the players we have. Whether we play it in an attacking on defensive way is going to be down to how the manager approaches the game.

Re: Team for Sunday
433 at home against Tiptree, we will see. Could be he will play 2 of the front three wide. 4321 sort of thing. I can’t go so I’ll be interested in how those that do see the formation. From his interview it seems like he is not relying on the main striker(s) for goals, rather having a system where goal chances can come from many sources. Well I think that’s what he said.
If so, I assume Brophy, Dayton, Dennis, JMD et al will be tasked at getting their share perhaps taking some of the weight off Harold, Wilkinson and Angol. Wonder if that’s what intensity means. Fast attacking on different fronts.
Could be exciting if it works. And hard for teams to play against.
A good workout tomorrow prior to the Main events of the next two home league games where his ideas should be clear.

I’d stick with it anyway, it suits our squad.

Re: Team for Sunday
But I don’t understand that. He talks about new ideas, new ways the team have to learn etc. Taking time to get his ideas in action. That don’t fit with the concept of just carrying on with the way we’ve been playing. There must be changes in style and formation. Or did Ross finally find perfection.
He talks a lot about intensity. I admit I don’t know what he means. Is it work rate, speed from going to attack from defence, numbers going forward. If you or anybody else has a clue then I’m all ears.

Re: Team for Sunday
Intensity is about how quickly you win the ball back, then it's about transitioning from defence to attack all done at pace. Everything is done quickly, accurately and the pace and pressure drives your opponents to make mistakes or not be fit enough to keep up with your team.
At present we are not fit enough to employ such tactics however, like I surmised after the DD flat comment that hes working them hard so we could play that way.
Man City, Liverpool and the great Barca side all played in that style.

I think red you have a problem. I’m trying hard to create genuine discussion points. No trying to get one up or trying to be some some sort of know it all. Yet you reply in a sarcastic way. You really do need to grow up mate. Pathetic is an apt word. Tbh if you can’t play nicely then f*** off.Red_Army wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2019 3:32 pmThanks for the insight.dOh Nut wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2019 2:41 pm433 at home against Tiptree, we will see. Re: Team for Sunday
Controversial perhaps but may have an ounce of truth in it. He has struggled this year with the pace of the league and the increase in quality of players going past him. May well turn out to be one of the favourites we'll need to let go in order to move forward.

Tough on Coulson. Pace has caught him out but he still commands at the back and I’d sooner have him play than not. And who do we replace him with?gshaw wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2019 4:12 pmControversial perhaps but may have an ounce of truth in it. Re: Team for Sunday
January will have the answer for that but it'll cost £££. The amount of shoddy goals we concede inside the box suggests no one is commanding that area right now.dOh Nut wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2019 4:18 pmTough on Coulson. I see big defensive changes coming if Ekpiteta doesn't sign a new contract by then too.

Re: Team for Sunday
Fixed that bit. Clay has been found out big time in L2 thus far. Fortunately only playing non-league opposition so should be OK for that but a Wright / Clay pairing in a league game would get overrun far too easily.Four four two wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2019 7:54 pm Wright CM OK but needs s ball-winner alongside him
