They did, though.

Re: Craig Clay
But would that explain such a drop in performance? He did Ok first half, second half he just never seemed to get going, I wondered if it was a result of the knock he got taking its toll. But he was just sloppy. Poor passing, non existent tackling no closing down. A passenger.

Re: Craig Clay
I’ll take advice on what formation we played second half. I spent time trying to work it out but it seemed a hotch pitch. A shambles is what it looked like to me. The poor luvvies obviously tired from their travels were making it up as they went along.
They need to grow up, grow a pair, are realise that their fans who do tough nine to five jobs have it a f*** site harder than they do. No f*cking sympathy from me.

Re: Craig Clay
He's at his best when he can get around without worrying whether his partner has the intelligence to cover for him. At the start of last season, I hated him. All the times I'd seen him play previously, I thought he was awful. Just ran around a lot and pointed. At the end of last season, he was by far my player of the year. I don't think Clay and Wright can play together. Clay has to sacrifice too much of his game.RedO wrote: ↑Sat Oct 26, 2019 9:26 pmI don’t agree entirely but I get your point.BiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Sat Oct 26, 2019 8:21 pm It’s amazing how your form suffers when you have to do what Josh Wright and Joe Widdowson should be doing whilst getting forward to support and back to defend
Clays best spell with us - IMO the only time he has really played at an acceptable level - was when he had Jobi alongside him.
Other than popping up with goals and spraying the occasional cross-field ball, I don't think Wright offers anything of note. Typical English midfielder looking to pad his stats out.

So who was in centre mid if they were out wide?

As things stand he's our top scorer, that's something of note in my bookBiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Sat Oct 26, 2019 11:13 pm

Re: Craig Clay
It is, but he’s got it in his locker to be the playmaker for us. That’s what I would like to see him do, lots of give and goes, sliding passes in between defenders etc. Rather than a sideways or backwards pass whilst it keeps possession, someone like him should take the game by the scruff of the neck and dominate it.

That’s the first thing I said. Fortunately, players are judged on more than just popping up with goals.gshaw wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2019 12:28 amAs things stand he's our top scorer, that's something of note in my bookBiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Sat Oct 26, 2019 11:13 pm

As for his goals. Great header against Port Vale and another great strike against someone else, he has a tap in, a header from about 5 yards and 2 penalties. He’s hardly driving the team forward like Gerrard did for Liverpool.
I’d love to see his pass completion rate. For every 15 5 yard passes square or backwards, he’ll try 1 cross field ball forwards. He’s an absolute myth.

Re: Craig Clay
So we've gone from 3 centre midfielders because we haven't got 2 strong enough to play there on their own, to just the 1? Right oh.
This isn't complicated stuff. The midfield didn't change. It's just that the two wide men were no longer out there so Clay and Wright were getting pulled out there on occassion. Fletch did not stick Clay left midfield and Wright on the right wing FFS.

Re: Craig Clay
Wasn’t good enough last time he stepped up to this level; isn’t good enough this time either. Acceptable as a squad option, but the pace of play is a yard too fast for him and he offers very little on the ball.
