Richard McFadden

Post by Throoou The Netting! »

Clapton Orient ace goalscorer, Richard McFadden, died of wounds this day in 1916, during the Battle of the Somme. Not only was his bravery evident on the battlefields of Northern France, prior to the war he also saved the lives of two young lads who were drowning in the River Lea, and a small tot who was trapped in the kitchen of her house, that was on fire. Prior to joining the O's, he also dragged a man from a burning building. Rest in Peace, Richard

May his soul and all others who died in the defence of freedom rest in peace forever more.

The one Somme trip Mrs NES and I did we found so moving. McFadden seems to have been a remarkable man, such a loss as were all the especially young, men and women who died.

WW One was a horrific war in which so many died in terrible ways.
Sadly to be repeated only 21 years later.

The human race does not learn from its past mistakes. Look at the world today and see how many conflicts that are going on now. Why can’t we all just live in peace?
