Re: Extinction Rebellion
Cars are not the problem and you know that.
Coal fired power stations, cheap energy based on natural resources have allowed manufacturing to take over based on consumer demand. This has led to pollution increases and the removal of natural habitats. Clean water without desalination is a problem, the destruction of the rain forest is not helping, the extinction of species is not helping. Take palm oil it's a massive problem which no one seems to want to address.
I love my meat, I love a steak like the next man, but the reality is cows cause more harm to the environment than all the cars in the world together.
We breed as a race like no one else, the other day I said its controversial, but the Pope could help by allowing birth control. We may as a race need to go further and control the population as its not sustainable in the long run.
I mentioned about the ground sourced heat pump, add in wind and solar power and we start to find ways of renewable energy without the impact that fossil fuels bring. Necular power could be the answer, but is it safe? Today the vested interests won't allow that to happen, so it stays expensive. Governments are not serious in making or effecting change, until they do things are going to get worse.

Three of my cars did less than a 1,000 miles between them last year for example. The family car did about 10k.
Take today, its rubbish day, I take pride every week that I put out the most recycling in my road. Not because I consume the most, but because I recycle absolutely everything and my wheelie bin which I believe goes to landfill has rarely got much in it.

Re: Extinction Rebellion
Be lucky in your travels this morning, XR people have climbed on top of trains on the jubilee line and DLR.
Just seen a video on tv where people at caning town have had enough, someone got up top pulled the XR man down and then the crowd just started beating him up. Again they are targeting the wrong people and stopping people going about their lawful business, the crowd there have turned.

Re: Extinction Rebellion
Update it’s proper kicked off at Canning Town, fights breaking out all along the platform against any XR people who are getting whacked and when they fall stamped on. It’s a bit strong in my view, but it begs the question where are BTP?

Absolute scum. I hope all those assaulting the activists are identified and dealt with by the courts.

Re: Extinction Rebellion
Whilst assault should not be ignored, the activists who were rightly arrested are trespassing, causing delays, and I’m sure breaking other laws which Spen could and should advise us of. At the very least he should advise how the customers who punched and kicked the men can evade arrest as he seems quite well versed in that aspect of law.

Nice whatabouterry. It's almost as if you really aren't on the side of the protestors.Thor wrote: ↑Thu Oct 17, 2019 9:33 amWhilst assault should not be ignored, the activists who were rightly arrested are trespassing, causing delays, and I’m sure breaking other laws which Spen could and should advise us of. Not sure 'causing delays' is against the law but happy to bow to spens expert knowledge.

The public have spoken. These Extinction Rebellion idiots might have a sensible cause, but they need to read " How to Win Friends & Influence People "

Hopefully in plain clothes giving the XR idiot a good kicking...especially as he kicked a member of public first. He deserves all he gets and then some

Obstruction of railway I believe still carries a maximum of life sentence
S3, s4 or s5 public order.
The members of public were making a citizens arrest and are able to use force necessary to detain criminal...especially when said criminal started violence by kicking member of public in head. Criminal had shown himself to be violent and needed restraining.
Also members of the public were acting in self defence or defence of others which is a defence to assault. Criminal lau ched luscious and unprovoked attack on member of public by kicking him in head.
No one saw anyone kick the criminal or assault him. The 1000 people on platform were all looking the other way when assault happened

Re: Extinction Rebellion
The quote from the BBC website was obviously cut short as it was surely meant to go onto sayBTP said it was investigating what happened at Canning Town station, adding it was "concerning to see that a number of commuters took matters into their own hands, displaying violent behaviour to detain a protester".
Using violent behavior to detain a protestor is clearly a role reserved for police officers

Re: Extinction Rebellion
RedO said They're not trying to win friends. This is a bit more important than that.
I would have thought that if you are trying to greatly influence Public Opinion, the first thing you need to do is get the public on your side. It is obvious that these eejits have not done a days work in their life. Anyone with half a brain knows that Londoners are not at their happiest while setting off to work. I totally agree that climate change could be one of the most important issues of our lifetime. It is the fact that these eejits are setting the agenda.

They just want the government to start taking action.

Que?
Yes they are because pressure on our self serving political representatives who have their own agenda from the public will result in action.

Re: Extinction Rebellion
Disagree, give them medals & throw the protesters in the slammer.
With XR the clue is in the title Rebellion.
They so intent on causing upheaval & being rebellious, the message they are trying to promote gets completely lost.
