Re: Carl Fletcher Appointed
It sounds as though Ling & the board did their homework and I get the rationalisation of liking the fact Fletcher had experienced failing at a young age as a manager. Character building and all that, and he will have learned a lot at Bournemouth.
To me, Orient seems to be a club which always performs well when there’s a good team spirit (2013/14 and last season being the obvious standouts). From the interview, he seems a decent chap and I can’t imagine Eddie Howe would talk up someone who didn’t have the capacity to build a decent camaraderie in the squad.
Time will tell, I’m definitely not feeling negative about the appointment.

Re: Carl Fletcher Appointed
Welcome Carl. I’m excited by his appointment and I will spell out why.
Played International Football who was the last manager we had who played int football?
Played in the premier league so he was a decent player
Was captain of his teams, so he’s a leader, the one major thing we need right now a leader and your either born one or your not.
His coaching methods will be fresh, like his outlook.
He’s worked under one of England’s highly rated young coaches so hopefully something has rubbed off on him
He’s been around a premier league set up so knows what it takes to play in that environment
If he’s loaning our players he will know lots of clubs, players and agents
So all in all I like what I see, now he has to organise and bring about a structure to get the best out of the squad, just like Justin did. Let’s all get behind him cos I think it’s gonna be exciting again.
Good luck Carl all the best mate, get the O’s out this league ASAP please.

Re: Carl Fletcher Appointed
I can completely see the reason why people would be pessimistic with this appointment as it’s a crucial crucial season for the club in terms of not slipping back down into the National League. A safe option would have appeased people.
However, we have the safety net with only one team going down this season and we still have the man that’s kept us in a decent position so far this season on board backing Fletcher.
Remember Eddie Howe and his experience level when he took over Bournemouth...
If there was a season where this could pay off and we can take a gamble maybe this is the one.

Good luck Carl.
I can understand those who have reservations about this.
Equally, I trust Martin and the Board and if they say hes interviewed well and ticks all the boxes, I’m happy to go with that and support him.

Re: Carl Fletcher Appointed
A lot is being made of his current role as loan manager. The contacts he will have as a result of this etc
Just checked Bournemouth out on soccerbase to see who he is currently managing. It’s looking good if we want to tap up Eastleigh or Weymouth for one of their players.

Re: Carl Fletcher Appointed
I’d much rather a young manager looking to prove himself than a journeyman of mediocrity. With only one going down this year I fancy him to make a go of it. Up the O’s

Re: Carl Fletcher Appointed
Exactly the point I've been making. We haven't made an appointment with the club in such a good position for a long time. There is nothing fundamentally wrong with the team, finances are stable, fans are on board. Add this to a comfortable league position, lack of pressure for promotion and relegation and one relegation spot, and it looks the ideal moment to take a bit of a gamble.Horient wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2019 8:55 pm I can completely see the reason why people would be pessimistic with this appointment as it’s a crucial crucial season for the club in terms of not slipping back down into the National League. I'm not saying Fletcher will definitely be a success, but I think the appointment makes some sense, and the conditions for this type of appointment are good.

If this appointment at least means ComeOnYouOs and PoundhillO stay at Salford on a pernament basis, then it can only be a good thing surely?

Re: Carl Fletcher Appointed
It's not a terrible appointment until then, that's just a nonsense opinion. Also, beforehand people were bleating about the job going to a mate of Ling. Doesn't the fact it's gone to Fletcher prove that it was an unbiased process with us selecting the best candidate for the job?ComeOnYouOs wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2019 6:20 pm I have no idea why the club think he is the man to lead us into league one.
No doubt there will be a video or two tomorrow from Ling, spinning it all, and trying to convince us how lucky we are to have him.
If he does the business and we become a top side, I'll admit I was wrong publicly, but until then, this is a terrible appointment IMO

Re: Carl Fletcher Appointed
Certainly a very interesting appointment. He's still only 39 and has already had the experience of working in a bit of a "basket case" environment at Plymouth and also in a very good premiership set up at Brighton under Eddie Howe. Every managerial appointment is a gamble but I wish Carl all the best and really hope he is the man to lead us forward over the next few years.

Re: Carl Fletcher Appointed
SF you’re quite right. Coyos I’m surprised that a fan of your longevity has a serious downer on the appointment and before he’s even taken a session you think it’s a terrible appointment. I accept its your opinion and your entitled to it however, please give the man a chance. I personally think he will be a positive influence in moving the club forwards. I hope I’m right and your wrong, only time will tell.Smendrick Feaselberg wrote: ↑Thu Oct 17, 2019 8:30 amIt's not a terrible appointment until then, that's just a nonsense opinion. Re: Carl Fletcher Appointed
I wanted a young manager and I’m not necessarily unhappy with Fletcher. My issues with it are his last job was a loans manager, he wasn’t coaching. Why has he gone from wanting to do that to wanting to be manager at Orient? He wasn’t on Eddie Howe’s staff, so I doubt he’s had many chances to work with him coaching players. He’s keeping the same coaching set up at Orient as was already here and those players have gone backwards under them. There’s a long term plan at the club and if they felt Fletcher is the right man to take the club forward, you can’t give him at 18 month contract. It shows a lack of faith and players could react negatively/players won’t come.
The timing is another thing. It was announced late yesterday afternoon and Fletcher said ‘Ross will take the game on Saturday’. We have a game against Plymouth next Tuesday. There’s a full week between games this week. Why wasn’t he announced before Saturday’s game against Walsall? Then he could have had the whole week with the team. How much training will they get in with him before they travel to Grimsby and then down to Plymouth and back within 4 days?
We’ll know in 10 or so games whether it’s working out or not. Fingers crossed it’s an inspired appointment
