Kent Teague - Promotion to League 1 Tweet
Here is what he’s tweeted overnight.
most important objective is promotion to League 1. I believe this is something #OurClub must both deserve & achieve. We are planning for & working toward League 1 over the next 3-4 years. Deserving & achieving applies to the entire Club
I’d say he’s got ambition, don’t you?

We'll see if he backs that up with the quantity and quality of signings in the January transfer window...

Re: Kent Teague - Promotion to League 1 Tweet
From the moment that NT and KT took over, the way the club has been organised and run has been very impressive. The support has been good too. With these two ingredients, it felt inevitable that we would climb out of the National League and likely progress to League One, it was all a question of time and of course an element of fortune as to when that would be.
So good to know that the plans remain for League One, and I trust that the owners will achieve that.

Re: Kent Teague - Promotion to League 1 Tweet
Teague has posted time and time again about slowly building up to get back to league 1 from when he took over. I think the early promotion last season has set expectations in a lot of fans that do not match the boards plans.

Re: Kent Teague - Promotion to League 1 Tweet
If memory serves me right they said the ambition was to get out of NL in 3-4 years and we bettered that by doing it in 2
So he’s saying the same for L1.
It would be great if we can do it in 2 again

Perhaps, but who would buy? The last time we had a very good season in League One our gates were only marginally better than they were last season in the NL. There's a lack of potential compared to the likes of Portsmouth, Argyle, Coventry... even Bradford City. Wood, Hearn and Travis all bought LOFC to save it (is my view), not to invest in something with good growth potential. Let's not mention Beccehetti, that defies logic.

I have to disagree Kent and Nigel are in it for the long haul IMO

I agree. I also happen to believe that the championship is the target, and then with this new backer and possible new backers in the future as we move closer to the horizon it’s becomes realistic. Finance will be the only barrier to the promised land of the premier league.
Dreams are for dreamers, goals are for achievers.

Re: Kent Teague - Promotion to League 1 Tweet
Personally I think that tweet is in support of the new head coach before he has been unveiled so reaffirming that he is going for league 1, the club is also going for league 1 and nothing has changed. If Fletch is the new guy then he is saying he will deliver this, despite a perceived lack of experience as evidenced by people prattling on since his name was leaked.

Re: Kent Teague - Promotion to League 1 Tweet
I reckon Kent Teague believes play offs are achievable this season. He also tweeted he was disappointed they only had 16 points so far, as he expected 19. And 19 points is 8th, just outside the play off positions. As it stands Swindon in 7th are only 5 points away and not in good form. First priority is securing place in League Two, which now looks likely after last two wins. So next target has to be play offs.

I thought the original 5 year plan was to get back in League 1 within 5 years from taking over ?

I think league 1 football will happen sooner rather than later, but then I wonder if Championship football is a target.
Ive heard Kent say, the cost of just maintaining a team in the Championship is incredibly high.....I got the feeling he wouldnt be too interested
At the end of the day, he's a businessman pure and simple

I am pretty sure that supporters of Hartlepool, Chesterfield and Wrexham would love to be in our position. To get us out of the NL nightmare after two seasons was a massive achievement.
In my book Kent, Nigel and Martin have achieved a greater degree of success than expected after 30 months in charge.

Re: Kent Teague - Promotion to League 1 Tweet
Kent said in a TV interview last season the plan the board has is a promotion every 3-4 years, winning the NL in two was a fantastic achievement. if we took another 3 years to get into league one (which is realistic) it would be fantastic. In the meantime the club would continue to grow off the pitch which will enhance our chances on it.PoundhillO wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2019 9:56 am I thought the original 5 year plan was to get back in League 1 within 5 years from taking over ?
I'm sure we would love to be in the Championship eventually, It would need further Investors with deep pockets to maintain it though.

Yes we have won the last 2 games, but the performance on Saturday didn't look like we have turned a corner. Let's just concentrate on securing League football this season and we can think about pressing on next season when we might have some better players.

I’d have suggested that his ROI would be greater than where we are now.ComeOnYouOs wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2019 10:03 am I think league 1 football will happen sooner rather than later, but then I wonder if Championship football is a target.

Re: Kent Teague - Promotion to League 1 Tweet
With a rich Russian.
Just about the very first thing he did was buy Charlie Daniels and the rumour mill went something like this. Daniels was on £1,500 and was offered just under £3,000 per week by us. The Russian comes along and pays us a decent fee and Daniels £6,000 per week.
In 2016 AFCB then got fined £6.7m under the FFP rules. Most teams trying to achieve rapid success fall foul of this and very deep pockets and its very unlikely we will ever have people owning the club with such pockets. Besides, history has shown us, more than almost any other club, that spending does not equal success.

Re: Kent Teague - Promotion to League 1 Tweet
Unjustified to be critical of Travis, Teague and Ling when looking overall. They have done an amazing job in a short time and I for one am enjoying life back in the league after being Champions for the first time in years. And we’re doing OK. The crapfest of NL football will live long in my memory.
Of course we may dream of Championship football but reality is League 1. A reasonable 3-4 years time target. Nothing wrong with that. Solid, structured and carefully built growth.
If Fletcher has impressed through the interview process, demonstrating he is a young up and coming Manager with potential, good ideas, ambition and ability to deliver that target, then fine, gets my support. Who are we to say it’s a poor decision.
I do agree with the point made about Teague tweeting in support of Fletcher, negativity wont help him much when he starts the job, just heaps on more, unnecessary, pressure.

On the subject of Investment. Travis mentioned earlier this season in one of his podcast interviews that there is a publicity shy new investor in the back round who could easily buy the club outright, evidently very wealthy having been on the board of Pepsi for several years.
Personally I like the steady approach that T&T take with regard to finance, building the infrastructure of the club makes it more sustainable in the future.

Is this investor already signed up or are they still undecided? I don't listen to the podcasts so I wouldn't know.Top of the West. wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2019 10:41 am On the subject of Investment. I’m not too sure Teague is in it for the very long haul. I’m willing to bet the financial reality of his position has hit home and though I doubt he would look at cheap options as some have suggested, counter productive, the development of commercial activities are vital. Not too sure just how deep his pockets are and how long he could sustain significant losses, for what is a hobby.Top of the West. wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2019 10:41 am On the subject of Investment. So would he listen to offers, absolutely. Would he accept a decent offer, without doubt. And by creating a club with a solid on and off field base we become even more attractive to rich buyers. I’m sure it will happen at some point.
