Apart from getting in no man's land as well as giving away a needless corner in the first half, yeah he did OK.

Hayden legs just aren't there as well. Can't cover nearly enough ground defensively in a two man midfield and offers little in possession.
Gilbert and Forrester have been very good at least.
Dead right. Jusuf's patches of brilliance do not compare with El Miz's solidarity and ubiquitousness. Also, 'thought Wellens and Dobra added something late in the game. (Apols to anti- Wellens brigade).

Re: Exiles Thread - Blackpool (H)
Goodness knows how we won that. Blackpool were by a long way, the better side, playing some lovely flowing football for long periods, but as I've been saying for years, it's goals that count.
I thought we played as if we were the away side, which I thought might be deliberate, seeing as we get better results away
Gilbert was a great signing... His dead ball delivery is really good.
At the other extreme, Kabia isn't very good. He reminds me a bit of Drinan... Runs for ever, with little end result. He's good at falling over though
Three welcome points, at the end of the day

Akhamrich and Kabia seemed way out of their depth. Kabia 1 shot, one pass and one tackle. Akhamrich 6 passes and one tackle.

If you're going to play him, he has to play out wide, Dobra is a better bet if you're going to play someone coming central.

I think Kabia may well end up playing second fiddle to Scarlett - doesn't offer the movement, hold up play, nor physicality that is really needed to be sole striker.WilliamTell wrote: Sat Oct 17, 2026 5:39 pm Akhamrich and Kabia seemed way out of their depth. Akhamrich is a victim of his own success - teams doubling up on him now - he's also struggling having to play more centrally.

Agree, but would worry he'd struggle against more physical teams. That said, if Hayden has done his hamstring, would be interested to see a midfield three of Gilbert, El Miz and Dobra.Jeremy Bentham wrote: Sat Oct 17, 2026 6:10 pm If you're going to play him, he has to play out wide, Dobra is a better bet if you're going to play someone coming central.

Just back. It’s not easy being an Orient supporter. We did well to win that. Well done the defenders.
According to BBC stats we had only 37% of the possession. It’s nice to win with that percentage. We normally have 60% possession and lose.

Huge difference once Wellens Jnr came on, effectively turned the tide in our favour. Well done to him, despite all the noise.

Re: Exiles Thread - Blackpool (H)
I'm very pleased with the 3 points but I have to agree Blackpool did look the better side . In my opinion their number 11 , Josh Bowyer looked the best player on the pitch . Does anybody know why every time Bowyer touched the ball our fans were booing him . I'm just curious, do we have any history with this player .Also I think the way we were set up today made us harder to break down but somewhat nullified our attacking threat . We've played better this season at home and lost so all I care about is we won . Also I thought Akhamrich and Kabia looked poor today and didn't really influence the game . However I thought Dobra and Wellens looked good when they came on .Qin wrote: Sat Oct 17, 2026 5:35 pm Goodness knows how we won that. Yep me too,Jeremy Bentham wrote: Sat Oct 17, 2026 3:47 pm Is it only me who's disappointed with Hayden, I was expecting a similar impact to Gilbert, especially as he's been made captain?
Was really expecting him to stand out at this level but until he went down injured just before HT I didn’t know he was even playing.

For those not at the game, Bowyer was booked for diving in the Orient penalty box in the first half, and accordingly booed every time he got the ball after that. Was indeed the best player on the pitch first half though.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: Sat Oct 17, 2026 7:24 pmI'm very pleased with the 3 points but I have to agree Blackpool did look the better side . Great result, awful performance. I understand why we're having to do what we're doing but it ain't pretty to watch. If we're going to persist with the narrow 5-2-2-1, we somehow need to keep both Yusuf and Alan out wide.
Outstanding shift from the defensive unit, Forrester and Stevens the pick of the bunch yet again.
Literally no idea how Competition Winner got on the bench and got some minutes once more. Laughable contribution from him yet again. Can you imagine being Clare or Theo or Mitchell or Oyekunle or (is that it?) stuck at home for that?

Wrong analysis.Top of the JES wrote: Sat Oct 17, 2026 4:03 pm Playing "wing backs" and two wide players in front of them does not work, it just leaves a lack of bodies and a hole in central midfield. Blackpool have put in two or three great crosses and we are surviving at the moment.
We played with wing backs, both Yusuf and Alan played narrow. Those crosses came in because they were overloading the wide areas (because we didn't have wingers supporting the wing backs).
We did at least try to put Yusuf out wide by inverting Stevens after a bit in the first half.

We looked second best mainly but the commitment was unquestionable from the players.
I have been quite critical of Wellens Jr as he seems so passive, but felt he was super-industrious once he came on, and we pressed from the front much better. The team turned round and were facing forwards, not back, after his inclusion. Credit where it's due.

Am I the only one who thought Blackpool were a bit naff? They could have played for 3 more hours and not scored.
Their corners were especially bad.
All in all a pretty poor match. A win is a win but we saw two teams who will be lucky to hit mid-table this season.
