False widows

Post by Real Al »

Had a spider on the ceiling of my shower for a few days, which I believed to be a false widow, so I removed him* (humanely).

Seemed to be pretty non-aggressive and I believe their bite is only about the same as a bee sting, but there's something unnerving about having a venomous spider hanging above your head when you're naked.

*obviously not a her as she'd have run a mile rather than watch me with me kit off.

How do you know it was a False Widow? Did you look it up on the web?

About 2 months ago I was bitten twice in the stomach by one while clearing out dead leaves in my basement. Came up with a big red rash, and left me with a headache for almost a week. I don’t suffer from headaches normally.
It looked like a big black shiny bead , well it did until I stamped on it.

Someone I know ended up in hospital on a drip with a hole in their leg guess it depends how sensitive you're to the bite.

Widow ,window, just throw a brick at it, if it squashes it's a widow, if it cracks a window, either way sorted

False Widows aren't dangerous, all spiders are venomous but only a few have the power to puncture the human skin.

Many on here probably have false widows in their homes, they are very common. They're not aggressive in any way and will hide from humans. They can be identified as they have what appears to look like a skull on their abdomens. There are three main species in the UK and they are commonly known as the Cupboard Spider and Rabbit Hutch Spider.

They only bite Daily Mail readers and all these horror stories and pictures of spider bites are down to an allergic reaction or the bite becoming infected. If the person was actually bitten by a spider in the first place.

Learn to love spiders, they do more good in the home as they eat all the less desirable creepy crawlies.

NO spider in the UK is dangerous.

Love and Peace.
