A charity shop was recently slammed for offering a Black and White Minstrels lp, it was entertainment at one time now it is deemed offensive. They removed it from sale.

My question was a serious one. Blackface and whiteface are both things that have no place in today’s society if used in a racist way, which has moved on from the days when the black and white minstrel show was entertaining people.

I have no desire to offend and wondered what in my comment could be seem as offensive. If it could be seen in that light, though unintentional, I would have no problem apologising.

Yes. It’s a theatrical thing with people wearing white makeup and generally taking the piss out of white folk. I saw it’s sort of relevance with reference to the black and white minstrel show when it’s difficult to work out the colour of the perseon wearing the makeup.

Interestingly I guess a black person could perform as a blackface and a white person whiteface in terms of the makeup they wear. It’s personal opinion as to whether this stuff is just theatre, where makeup is common, or racist.
