Its the Brexstremists who are driving that thinking. Many leave voters who are now aware of the damage Brexit will cause would probably now vote remain.

That is why it is important to have a second referendum and not let the MPs make the decision to abandon Brexit in the way you suggest.

The result of that vote will be to remain and the matter can be put to bed and we can get on with addressing the constitutional, economic and material concerns of the nations. They have been ignored for too long.

Remainer (and the non suicidal Leaver) MPs don't want an election now to prevent Boris allowing No Deal to go through unchallenged.

I suspect Labour are gambling that, if Boris fails to deliver ever a no-deal Brexit by 31st October, his ratings will take a hit. Also, the more time they can keep him in the spotlight the more opportunity for his liberal tendencies to be exposed. He'll find it increasingly more difficult to play the anti-establishment card too. As a strategy, it's about as good a one as labour could come up with given Corbyn's ratings.

I still reckon that the most likely outcome of a general election is another hung parliament. As much as I hate to say it, I'm beginning to think that another referendum may be the only way out of all of this. And I really don't want one as it will be insufferable. However, if there is one, I wouldn't' bet against leave winning again. Remainers are being far too sure of a referendum delivering a different outcome. However, if a STV is utilised, then I could see us voting to leave on a 'deal'.
