I do and have personally intervened when a middle aged male fan who'd been abusing RE non-stop from the gallery section turned his ire onto the good Mrs E (who by the way seems to be a perfectly pleasant lady who'd done nothing more than defend her husband from a ridiculous tirade of abuse).RedO wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2019 9:06 am
Who even knows what REs wife looks like?
Whilst I agree with their point of view, there’s just no need for it, is there? Same as those making the snidey ‘Good’ comments on here yesterday. I also bet this fan wouldn’t have dared say this to Ross’s dad or brother.

Maybe he didn't want to draw attention to it? Maybe he didn't want to put Mrs E in the position where she's under more scrutiny or exposed to the inevitable online attention she'd receive if he made it public that he was standing down due to his wife being verbally abused? Especially as he's going to be continuing his previous role and I assume Mrs E (and from memory their children) will continue attending matches.

Are you saying that someone was making comments to Ross and Mrs Ross got involved, or he turned around and starting abusing her before she'd said a word?

My knees are OK thanks Comeonyouos.
I am glad you have found alternative listening that satisfies you.
As for 'my' show, it's actually not. I merely arrange the panels and host every 4 weeks. We have 4 different presenting teams including journos and a former LBC and BBC sports presenter, none of whom obviously reach your exacting standards
Never mind it's year 4 of the show and I guess we will have to carry on without you, we have a few thousand listeners so I guess we will survive.
Just my opinion of course.

Re: Some Of You Are An Embarrassment
I don't get that. Practically every single fan would be supportive of him and his family if this is what had happened. More people would intervene if it was a known issue and ever happened again.admin wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2019 9:43 amMaybe he didn't want to draw attention to it? I also don't get why the club didn't take action if a family member was abused at a home game as you've said.

I can't comment on why the club didn't act. Certainly stewards were present - from memory she'd asked him to basically stop calling her husband a c*** at which point he decided she'd get some of the same. This happened when Davis was manager.RedO wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2019 9:55 amWhy didn't the club act on that?admin wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2019 9:39 amI do and have personally intervened when a middle aged male fan who'd been abusing RE non-stop from the gallery section turned his ire onto the good Mrs E (who by the way seems to be a perfectly pleasant lady who'd done nothing more than defend her husband from a ridiculous tirade of abuse).RedO wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2019 9:06 am

Regardless of the order it happened in, it was no way to behave towards anyone.

Re: Some Of You Are An Embarrassment
As I've said above, I've no idea what the club did or didn't do about it. I very rarely visit the Gallery and can only tell you what I saw on that day.RedO wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2019 9:58 amI don't get that. I'd like to think that the majority will be supportive although I can certainly see an element who'll take an opposite view. I deal with a couple of ex-pros who train my kids team mid-week - both played L2 / NL and were adamant that fans even at this level have the ability to make their lives unpleasant. One of these players said that a particular fan made it their life mission to abuse him on and off the pitch (even so far as to waiting in the club car park with a group to abuse said player and their family). Eventually, the player snapped and ironed out the fan after months of it happening - the club had offered no support during this time and gave him no mitigation for his actions - contract quietly terminated.
We're clearly speculating on this - we've no idea whether this played any part in RE's decision. From a personal perspective, I've met RE a few times and I don't think you could meet a nicer guy (perhaps that's the problem?). I think he's handled a difficult position as well as he could and is stepping down with a great deal of dignity.

Jesus - it seems like "really wanting your team to win football games" trumps "having a bit of human decency and respect" for some. Shame.

This should merit a ban. I thought there was near zero tolerance of use of foul and abusive language at football these days. That would be for anyone, never mind it being directed at the head coach's wife.admin wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2019 11:16 am I can't comment on why the club didn't act. Re: Some Of You Are An Embarrassment
There is horrific toxicity around the club at the moment.
Fans personally attacking and threatening others on twitter, kids accusing others of not being real fans. These are a vocal minority but builds a terrible atmosphere around the club.
This feels different to October/November in 2017 where there were huge frustrations with players.
I feel the club have a huge task on their hands at the moment. Martin Ling and Co need to bring in a manager to get things going on the pitch, but Danny, Nigel and Kent need to spin some magic to bring fans together. They are obviously connected but it's a big job for all at the club!

This. IMO also reflective of society in general these days. Unpleasantness and disregard for your fellow man abounds.StillSpike wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2019 11:43 am Jesus - it seems like "really wanting your team to win football games" trumps "having a bit of human decency and respect" for some. Re: Some Of You Are An Embarrassment
What counts as 'these days'? I can remember a well known fan getting into a ruck with Billy Bealls dad on the terrace at Barnet back in the 90s.
Fans have always shouted abuse at players and staff, let's not get all dramatic about it.

The "these days" bit was about society in general rather than fans / abuse.

Re: Some Of You Are An Embarrassment
I think someone needs to step up and show some initiative in taking a leadership role. This could be a player like Jobi, the new gaffer or a member of the board like Nigel or Kent. We need a unity figure to bring us back together. A win on Saturday would also be a good start.

He is clearly an honourable fella. However, it is an overstatement to say there has been vitriol on here. Apart from one occasional boarder, there had been no undermining of RE on here. The vast majority of boarders said to give him until Christmas.Andy Gilson wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2019 9:10 pm I hope some of you are extremely proud of yourselves.
Some of us knew it was a role Ross took for the benefit of the club, rather than it being one he had set his sights on. That being said we all hoped he would succeed and grow into and learn to love the role of being no1. However the level of vitriol and undermining especially on this forum has been a disgrace. The incident with his wife being berated seems to have proved to be the final straw for Ross. He is a thoroughly decent man, a good coach and most importantly a fellow O's fan. For him to have received the level of criticism he has its no surprise he has made it known he doesn't wish to continue.
Not a good day for the club. I hope you afford his successor more than 10 matches.
What is worrying is there seems to be too much carping at fans for having an opinion and I don’t mean the clown who abused Mrs E.
You take the Biscuit
Ling jnr only gets a game because
he is related blah blah
Ling blah blah blah
DoF blah blah blah.
Laughable

Ah bless him calls out club & individuals, goes by the name of Wumble & gets hurt by a tiny taste of his own medicine. All a bit flakey doncha fink?ComeOnYouOs wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2019 5:51 amMaybe the person in question was getting trolled by people like you, and got fed up with it.O my gawd wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2019 11:17 pm Andy you are 100% right. Now boarders have got their wish, they still aren't happy. Embleton's gone so let's get back to our old hobby of Ling bashing on another thread.
Where's the balanced views. We have one guy who was so into us that he has his own podcast & presented a radio show (not as good as your one ) & after just 10 games he's having a break from supporting us .
What's happened to supporting us through thick & thin? When I started supporting Orient, we were an established Division 2 club, within 4/5 years we were a not very good Division 4 team.
What's happened this season under the circumstances is absolutely nothing compared to those years & the Italian clowns era.
And incidentally, his radio show is a million times better than Andy's, in my opinion. It isn't a stooge to the club like Andy's programme is. I'm amazed Andy doesn't wear the knees of his trousers out at an amazing rate, such is the amount of crawling to the club and the official line.
Just my opinion of course
