Re: Labour Watch
Why shouldn't people have a choice? It saves the tax payer money as the state does not and would not contribute to that childs education.
Until the state gets rid of the rubbish teachers and brings in true quality across the board people will still pay. Why should a child be penalised cos he or she has a rubbish teacher? For too long mediocrity has been allowed to prevail and I go back to when I was in school. Change that and people won't need to pay.

I'm imagining the Daily Mail are reeling off the exact same stuff this morning.Thor wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2019 11:49 am Why shouldn't people have a choice? It saves the tax payer money as the state does not and would not contribute to that childs education.

Come on, you know the answers and why people shouldn't have the choice. Disagree with those reasons by all means, but don't play dumb and pretend you don't know why this is becoming policy.

Re: Labour Watch
It's not hypocritical - you cannot blame him for the choices his parents made. What would be hypocritical would be if any of the Labour MPs have sent their own children to private school. Ahem.
As for this policy, it's amusing to see so much hostility to the idea from people who have never benefited from a private education. Anyway you can all stop jumping up and down and frothing at the mouth as the headline policy wont happen. The policy will need to be further developed, so we'd need to see the meat on the bone, and I can guarantee that it will change.
A complete ban would have all manner of untold consequences (i.e. postcode lotteries, private tutoring) which could make educational inequality even worse. At most a Labour Government may strip private schools of their charitable status (which I'd be happy with).

^ This. No way this policy will ever come to fruition although the synthetic rage surrounding it is enjoyable.
Nick Ferrari on LBC was almost dribbling with incoherent rage this morning which is a good indicator of a left wing policy that might have some positive points to it.

Re: Labour Watch
Dunners, but surely corbyn denying others the same opportunity that he had is hypocritical? Let's face it I'm sure most on here would love to live in a 1.5m house like he does, that education must have helped him enourmously.
I'm not up to date on the charity aspect, but recently I asked about an agm being held for the members of a club I belong to and was told we've had it only the members were allowed in. I asked I didn't see anything about members being invited to which the reply came, only members of the charity.
I take it the schools don't pay vat to the government? I know they don't charge the pupils even though a service is provided I take it that's the aspect you referring to?

Re: Labour Watch
I've seen Corbyn's front garden, no way is that a £1.5m house.
For someone so pro private schools, you don't seem very up on all the tax breaks they receive from their laughable charity status.

It's the hypocrisy Thor hates the most.
You'd think that if you were going to post on a subject you wouldn't start your contribution to the debate by stating you're not really up to speed on this sort of stuff and then proceed to talk utter pish.

Re: Labour Watch
This is the old anti communist trope where people like Thor point to the queues and waiting lists in Russia for commodities and then say we don't have queues like that in the UK. Of course we didn't. If you didn't have the money there was no point in joining the queues.
Same with private education. No money = no choice.

Re: Labour Watch
Only some 7% have the choice. What about the other 93%?
Before I get dragged into this any further, wasn't Thor one of Gilso's amusing nom de plumes?
