Ling has been consistently good this season and anyone trying to pin last night's result on him clearly has an agenda. He's the best right back at the club currently and is well worthy of his place in the team.

He was honestly playing ok, until getting done in the 90th minute like that.

Offensively, that was easily the best I’ve seen him play. He was being braver with the ball, going forwards not back. Luckily they didn’t test him defensively until the later stages of the game when they tried to get down his channel with the long ball.

He was playing ok last night of that I must agree. However, having just watched back the highlights for the first goal he makes zero attempts to challenge the attacker, which is poor. We then had two further opportunities to defend it through Marv and Dean who both failed to deal with the header. So whilst Sam could and should have done better it is not his fault solely.

For the 2nd he was poor extremely poor. He's the wrong side of his man, he does not make any attempt to win the ball at any stage, then he puts zero effort in trying to block the cross. The goal is his fault, Marv is stretching trying to stop it and unfortunately it falls to the forward and bang goal, we get punished.

It is for me a common problem with Sam in that he very rarely busts a gut to get back, watch him in the next game and you'll see what I mean.

Finally, so far he's had a better season than last, I just don't think he's good enough for this level. Hopefully I'm proved wrong in the long run.

Fair assessment.

The problem is he's not a full back. He'll never be a natural defender so long as he's got a hole up his arse. He's a tidy enough footballer as he was showing on the ball last night. But he's not quite good enough to cut it in midfield, hence trying to eek out a career in one of the lesser positions.

1st goal- what do you expect him to do in the split second he has to react to a cross coming in and flicking off the Crewe guys head? He is marking someone, they get lucky as the next player it falls to swings and misses which deceives Brill and it goes in.

2nd- long ball, Ling is chasing back and tried to block the cross. Marv scuffs his clearance, which falls to the scorer.

I expect him to remain with the attacker and put him under enough pressure to make the flick on harder. The 2nd, he allowed the long ball to drop to a player he allowed to get goal side of him. The block from Marv should never have been able to drop to a Crewe player.

The whole defence is a shambles but he’s the only one who keeps his place.

The marriage stuff is bizarre, makes no sense at all. What if Coulson or Marv got injured in the warmup or after 10 minutes? Almost as if the attitude was we were unlikely to get a point or the game didn't matter so early in the season so it's OK.

I refuse to believe that, either it's bullshit or we ain't getting the full story.

Second goal was such a sh*t one to concede, basically a hoof downfield and the defence is in disarray.

We just seem to be all over the shop at the back. If you were an opposition manager you'd be telling the team the obvious points, 1) don't hit balls up to centre halves as they are dominant in the air, 2) work the flanks as the full-backs are slow and you will get good crossing opportunities, 3) make late runs into the box as they are not picked up.

The only teams we have managed to shut out were Cheltenham (who had 9 men for 30 mins) and Stevenage (who had no ambitions after suffering injury). Everyone else has had success using the 3 factors above.

Weak management. He didn’t just decide to not attend the squad, he would have had to get permission which Ross obviously allowed. We don’t know all the details but can’t imagine a player being allowed under other managers
