Do we lack some characters in this team?

Post by Rich Tea Wellin »

Not saying this is the only reason as to why we are struggling but with an inexperienced touchline, we could do with some characters and personalities on the pitch. Especially as Jobi isn’t out there.

Out of this lot only really Coulson and Wright seem like they have something about them personality wise and even Coulson has looked subdued so far this season.

In the past, even if they were sh*t, you had fan favourites and some players who get the crowd going and gee up the players. Feels a bit dead out there and no one particularly likeable in the team as there has been previously.

Embleton is out of his depth. Sooner he admits this the better.

We probably do. On the pitch last year, Jobi filled the void, but in terms of leadership he hasn't really been replaced.

That said, I think it would have been difficult to recruit big characters this season. The circumstances I think would have made it a risk, also I think the relative inexperience of Embleton is also a risk. Under Justin, you always felt he had the correct blend of being decent but also hard, and his status in the game afforded him respect.

In fairness it’s not up to him to admit it , it’s up to T&T and the DoF to recognise it and act accordingly.

You add Charlie Lee and Jamie Turley into the matchday squad too and that makes a difference.

I don’t really care who admits it. As long as someone does. It won’t get any better until we do.

Hard to blame Embleton for individual errors like the penalty miss and Ekpiteta’s balls up but things are starting to look a bit bleak at the moment, especially at home where you can start to see some of the players are walking on eggshells.

I get that. But we were looking ok until clay was brought on for gorman. After that we totally gave up midfield. A totally unnecessary change which more than contributed to our downfall.

But should he feel out of his depth, then out of respect to JE and his legacy, he should walk away rather than trash it.

Supposedly when we lost to Swindon i offered an opinion that Swindon were pretty ordinary & blamed Clay for 2 of the goals they scored were a direct result of him.

He comes on on Saturday when we are leading 2-1 & we draw, he comes on when we are level & we lose .

They said Swindon were a TOP team & would be IN AMONGST it , but they were ripped a new one by Col U who before tonight were on the same points as us.

Now if JMD scores the penalty a totally different perspective is on the game.

Before Clay comes on we are in control although not dominating , when he comes on we are defending far far more .

Craig fella , you are not a L2 Midfield dynamo .

Pull your socks up or be honest & do one !!

Marvin , you need to read this as well !

We need Jobi back & Dayton needs to be fit, just to give us different options.

I’ll put my money on Jobi will be nowhere near the player he was last season if and when he returns!Like I’ve said before,to many players kept on for sentimental reasons and were paying the price

He was well past it but in the dressing room, and if you bought him on with ten to go, he’d be kicking people up the arse if we needed to hold on.

We missed Brophy’s width and sparkle tonight. Widdowson was shaky in defence. Our midfield trio all played reasonably well, Marsh was excellent and Gorman has nice touches, but they were all doing similar jobs. They need to gamble more.

Agree apart I thought Marsh was good rather than excellent

We had 4 centre midfielders out there today and none of them showed that creative spark we’ve lacked for ages. It’s all just a bit, get the ball and sideways pass or hoof it down the line. Marsh seems tidy enough and won a few tackles but he seemed pretty pedestrian.

Yep, that. I'm talking about the leadership he added to the squad rather than his ability in the starting eleven.

There were no excellent players out there tonight. Ling and Wilkinson the best by a way I reckon.

Wilkinson impressed me. I’d not rated him so far but looked like he was angry today and maybe thrives playing up top on his own and bringing in others?

Ling was ok but Marvs getting a lot of stick for a cross that shouldn’t have got into the box...

Exactly..Except Wilkinson never looks like scoring! Only striker I know who’s afraid to have a dig.And when he does..very poor

Was thinking along the same lines as OP during the match. Miss that Jobi figure to galvanise others and lead by example. Certainly wouldn't be conceding late goals the way we have been, even our more experienced players don't seem the leader type.

Not convinced with Coulson as captain. Seemed like the perfect fit but some players get that armband and it affects their game. I never hear him in games anymore. As I say, subdued. Brill or Wright seem the only other options but it won’t happen.

I think it's becoming quite clear we're going to really struggle this season otherwise .
