''The persistent theme is a lack of pressure on the ball.'' That is it in a nutshell !RedO wrote: ↑Sun Sep 15, 2019 9:00 am The persistent theme is a lack of pressure on the ball.
The first clip, Wright wins the header in the six yard box and the ball gets hooked out to the wing. No one else goes out to the player, Wright himself has to head out there.
Their first goal, no one is anywhere near the crosser again. JMD doesn’t want it enough and gets beaten to the ball. The shot isn’t great but Brill isn’t agile enough to dive anymore.
The second goal, Wilkinson isn’t pressing the ball enough. He’s fresh so has no excuse of being tired, he needs to be working harder. If we still had Bonne, that ball isn’t played down the line, it would have gone back to the keeper.
Bit of luck in both goals for sure but Angol is class in both of them.
Comments on Wilkinson, quite correct, big improvement needed. Angol is really classy, would have been nice to see him and Bonne play together but it was not to be !!

Really? I know it's Brill in goal but come on, he'd have had to produce a worldie from that angle. Agree with your other points though.RedO wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2019 10:48 pmHe was definitely in with a chance of scoring there. Coulson had to try and win the ball, his mistake was getting turned in the first place.Millennial Snowflake wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2019 10:03 pmThis. Daft from Coulson trying to tackle a man from behind in the box in the 93rd minute. He wasn't scoring from there and we had enough bodies back to defend the ball across.Tom Chance wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2019 9:32 pm But why did Josh even give the ref the opportunity to give a pen. The player was on the edge of the box and others were back too.
For me it's a pen - there's contact and he hasn't played the ball. But as you say he shouldn't have given the ref the opportunity in that situation.
But the main problem is not defending from the front. Their centre half has all the time in the world to put a decent ball into the channel to stretch Josh. If Bonne was with us, that ball doesn’t get played in like that.
Agree with the comments about the first goal too. Ling rightfully goes with his man inside, Ekpiteta comes out to track the man out wide but then just jogs back into the middle and leaves him completely free, not telling anyone else to pick him up - naive from him. But we still had opportunities to clear the ball after that and failed.

Maybe the captaincy is too much of a weight on him. It does affect certain players negatively.

It’s amazing how many world class strikes are coming in against us this season that Brill hasn’t got a chance of saving. You’d never think we were facing Division 4 standard players.Millennial Snowflake wrote: ↑Sun Sep 15, 2019 9:52 amReally? I guess if you had it in for Ling, you could argue he should have showed his man down the line rather than let him come inside into the danger zone.....

Think the player just in front of Brill unsights him a bit, but agree that he lacks mobility.
Why does Coulson drop to his knees though? Not very captain-like. Terrible to give away the penalty in that manner too, we'll hopefully see a Happe/Ekpetita partnership soon.

Tend to agree about Coulson. He seems well off the pace at times, and im beginning to think maybe he's a good NL centre back, but not quite up to scratch in League 2, which is definitely a lot higher quality

Re: Exeter Whingers v The Mighty O's Brief Highlights
Nice hold up play for the second goal from Angol and a nice overlap from Widdowson which allowed Dennis to cut inside and shoot. Okay, the shot took a deflection but you make your own luck sometimes. These things tend to even themselves up over the course of a season.
Think back to the Mansfield game when we were 2 down at half time and they were top of the league. We went on to win the game and since then Mansfield have manged only 2 points from a possible 12. It's a funny old game as they say.

Some people here talk with such confidence unaware of their own football lack of knowledge and it decends into utter carnage of a players career

It's not that hard to understand is it? I'm sure the players appreciate their white knight standing up them though, all fragile as they are.

Re: Exeter Whingers v The Mighty O's Brief Highlights
The first goal I’d down to a lack of communication from ME to SL. If ME is handing the player over he needs to tell SL whose body language shows nothing was said to him. Also ME does not show body language that anything is being said to SL.
Therefore it’s a bit harsh to blame SL.

But some would say Lig is to blame for not showing him the line.

Sometimes those are given, sometimes not and sometimes the forward is booked for diving. That's footy for you.

There is a massive difference between a opinion as a genuine fan and crap uneducated personal subjective rudeness directed to a player particularly when the subjective comments are based on utter rubbish because that "fan" has limited football intelligence and more than likely was useless at football themselves and / or cannot comprehend the dynamics of playing a competive sport

Re: Exeter Whingers v The Mighty O's Brief Highlights
Dear me ,
There ia an awful lot of dissection on these threads lately.
Im suprised we havent been discussing the laces of some boots compared to others
Or indeed if polyester makes some players loose more fluid than others .
We play a simple game 11 v 11
Sometimes we win sometimes we lose .
The Expertise & analysis needs to be left to the tv Hansens &
Shearers of the world.
Its not enjoyable , listening to some smarty ars* 's
If a team is 10 games 10 defeats in, it can be assesed that
A the team is sh*te or
B the manager is sh*te &
Doesnt get the best
Or
10 games 10 wins
A everyone is brilliant ( wahey).
Us, we are in the middle at the moment
Were not brilliant but were certainly not sh*te.

Re: Exeter Whingers v The Mighty O's Brief Highlights
I enjoy analysing games. We’ve moved on from pundits and some fans stating the obvious. There’s a good chance I’m wrong lost of the time but it’s a bit dull to post on here ‘we are good’ or ‘we are bad’ rather than analysing formations, tactics, certain players, positioning, etc...
It may not be everyone’s cup of tea but get worn out arguing with people on here who deem that anything that doesn’t fit into a football conversation from 1982 means I’m booking in my coaching badges.
