Zach Hemming is not young in professional football terms. The Reverend wrote: ↑Wed Apr 30, 2025 11:30 am It’s a bit odd that when I pointed out that Howlers was naff I got absolutely slaughtered on here, and yet people seem to have free reign to go in hard on Hemming who happened to be a young GK who had a tricky loan period. It was clear to see that a couple of mistakes completely crippled his confidence and once your head goes you’re more prone to making errors and you fall into a vicious cycle. It was better for everyone that he was moved on but fundamentally I think there’s a professional goalkeeper in there somewhere.

Shame he left the board. He was one of the few on here who had a decent sense of humour.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Wed Apr 30, 2025 12:19 pm Phew, wasn't me, was some silly sausage called Max Howlers.

Another one tragically run off by The Usual Suspects, no doubt.

Have you considered - and I know this is highly, highly unlikely - that maybe, just maybe, there’s a teeny tiny chance that the people who had a go at you for your constant abuse of a goalkeeper are not the same people who were mean about another goalkeeper?

What outstanding loanees we have had this season in Kelman, Donley, Currie and Keeley. Credit to all those involved in getting them to the O's and for RW and his coaching team for getting them to play to such a high level.

Can I be bothered checking? No.
Interesting how when I say something it’s “abuse”. When others say something it’s being “mean”. Double standards much?

Also interesting how when you say something it’s “pointing out that he was naff” yet when others criticised Hemmings, they had “free rein” (note - not “reign”) to “go in hard”
Double standards much?

Are you seriously going down the “look he made a typo” route? You’re better than that.CEB2ElectricBoogaloo wrote: ↑Wed Apr 30, 2025 4:28 pm Also interesting how when you say something it’s “pointing out that he was naff” yet when others criticised Hemmings, they had “free rein” (note - not “reign”) to “go in hard”

By the way I have no issue with people going in hard on Hemming. People should be able to say a player is rubbish if they think they are rubbish. It was the pearl clutching at one GK being called naff verses the open season on another GK which I found interesting.
Bit weird that this happens to be the thing which brings you onto the football related threads. Why do you feel so passionately about how GKs are spoken about?

Are you saying that the strongest criticism you made of that goalkeeper was that he was “naff”?
I wonder if you typed that with a straight face.

I don’t recall making any comments about him beyond criticism of his goalkeeping performances and ability.CEB2ElectricBoogaloo wrote: ↑Wed Apr 30, 2025 5:18 pm Are you saying that the strongest criticism you made of that goalkeeper was that he was “naff”?

What is it about criticising goalkeepers that managed to warrant a rare guest appearance of you on the football threads? What specifically about our third choice GK and a bloke who doesn’t even play here anymore gave you the motivation to engage on this topic? It’s somewhat random.

That wasn’t my question - my question is whether you consider “naff” to be the strongest term you used when criticising him

Re: Whatever happens now, accolades to RW & the players
I might have said he’s “rubbish” or “useless”. I can’t remember the specific terms I used to describe his GK performances and ability. I might have called him outright “sh*t”, although unlikely. Why don’t you just get to the big reveal and share the link to whatever the strongest term I used was. Whatever it was, it will be related to his GK performances and ability rather than anything about him as a person.CEB2ElectricBoogaloo wrote: ↑Wed Apr 30, 2025 5:59 pm That wasn’t my question - my question is whether you consider “naff” to be the strongest term you used when criticising him
Once we’ve established that, why don’t you fast forward to the next phase of this where we debate what terms constitute “abuse” on a football message board when talking specifically about a players ability and performances. I look forward to the part where you try to position calling a professional footballer “Howlers” on a message board is as a form of abuse.

Out of interest, do you actually think that whatever I’ve said in relation to Howlers is “abuse” or do you just not like me moaning about what I perceive to be double standards that you presumably feel is just performative indignation?

Do you honestly think that anything I’ve said about that particular goalie constitutes genuine “abuse”?

Is that a fact that they are not highlighted because they are standard in Scotland?Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Wed Apr 30, 2025 9:47 amHave you not seen the gaffes he has continued to make at his new club? Hemming has proven that he isn't a crap keeper; he's doing well in Scotland. Moving down South and being hundreds of miles away from family, being so young AND having to get used to a new city quickly can affect people mentally. Not sure if people have actually considered this.
