Re: Astroturf
I played on astroturf twice, once at Market Road, Islington and once at Hackney Marshes. Both times I was in goal and both times it was an absolute nightmare. It was just concrete with a nylon carpet stuck on top so the bounce was always too high. I had to wear track suit bottoms to stop my legs suffering the famous astroturf burns and the second time it was very wet and they filled up with water. Terrible stuff.

Re: Astroturf
Pretty amazing the pitches now.. Bounces almost like grass, and not too treacherous even when soaking wet.

I remember the first few weeks when PowerLeague changed from Astro to 4G way back in 2010 or thereabouts. We were all cramping up as the surface was a lot slower underfoot and the ball didn't zip around as quick. A few weeks after getting used to it no-one would want to ever go back.

Re: Astroturf
It was a nightmare being a goalkeeper on the original astroturf pitches, I always bashed my knees and elbows every time I dived for the ball.gshaw wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2019 7:13 pmYup and so much more goalkeeper friendlyScuba Diver wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2019 6:53 pmPretty amazing the pitches now.. Re: Astroturf
Yup, the only threat now is to my gloves as the surface wrecks the latex. Started using the same brand Brill does (The One Globe Company) as they're well rated online for durability. Much better than the Adidas and Sondico ones I've had previously that's for sure.Lovejoy wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2019 7:27 pmIt was a nightmare being a goalkeeper on the original astroturf pitches, I always bashed my knees and elbows every time I dived for the ball.gshaw wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2019 7:13 pmYup and so much more goalkeeper friendlyScuba Diver wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2019 6:53 pm

Re: Astroturf
I used to play on the 4g pitches in Fairlop before I left the uk, which was in 2006. Great pitches, just had to remember to empty your shoes of the little black pellets before you got home!gshaw wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2019 7:13 pmYup and so much more goalkeeper friendlyScuba Diver wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2019 6:53 pmPretty amazing the pitches now..
