Yup that's how I see it too. Wouldn't blame him one bit for wanting out this summer with the size of rebuild that's going to be required. If the budget is the same or less it'll get increasingly difficult to keep competing at the right end of the table.
What remains to be seen is how big our budget will be for next season with this new consortium taking over . Smaller or the same size and next season will be struggle . If it's bigger we'll see what happens .

CK didn’t sign because some keyboard warrior said a few nasty things? Sounds like utter bollox.
Let’s be honest CK wasn’t exactly setting the world alight or QPR would have had him back, I mean they still play Smyth and he is mediocre at best at that level.

Orient fans cost us nothing, the fact was we couldn’t offer the wage he wanted.

I like CK and was pleased to see him as I thought he was a good replacement for RS.

RW needs to stop being a little moaning b*tch and should have got the board to stump up the cash to sign him.

Hopefully RW doesn’t read this or he may cry 😂

Hopefully our new owners will have the funds to sign players like Charlie . We'll wait and see .

The pertinent issue here isn’t whether fans are right or wrong to moan. Fans will always moan.
The pertinent issue is that a club needs to be able to work with players, and find a way to say “ignore the noise, we want you to join us”. If players aren’t joining cos of fans talking nonsense, that’s actually on the club for not putting it into perspective, not on the fans

Have to confess that I was one of the people who was slightly less than delighted when Charlie signed on loan for us this season. Very happy to admit that I was totally wrong. He has been excellent for us and I’d be very happy to sign him for next season no matter what league we are in.

I really like Wellens but that statement about Kelman is beyond mental.
Wellens is right to an extent, and we do seem to have our share of whinging, entitled, infant-like fans who'd do better to "support" Man City but still RW would be better to keep those thoughts to himself.
It's a workplace. It's not necessarily gonna be fun, like most workplaces; or it would be called "fun", not "work".

His comments supporting Kelman would have held some weight if he'd made them at the start of the season, as in "I know some fans have doubts but I believe in Charlie and he'll score 20 goals this season".

He said none of that, so him commenting now reeks of "Captain Hindsight", which is a really basic trait that anyone can do.It's a slightly slimy "I told you so", when he really didn't "tell us so".
Oh come on.

Wellens has consistently said how highly he rates Kelman, much to the confusion of nearly all Orient fans, for the past 2 1/2 years.

Your comment is an absolute lie.

Then maybe RW should have said how highly he rates him when there was a little bit of doubt from the player. As mentioned by CEB maybe RW needs to improve his negotiating skills rather than blame a few fans who moaned on line.

To be honest his remark is just pathetic at best and moronic at worst.

But Wellens said that we could have signed him.
The omly time we could have signed him was when his contract was running down at qpr & was still with us when we won promotion.
He then re-signed for qpr so it cant be true we could have got him in before august this season as we didnt spend any money & he ended up somewhere else on loan

Done well this year in a poor league. Not a full on striker but done great scoring 19 goals. Maybe as the manager Mr Wellens needs to own up that the team is full of loan players

I haven’t mentioned what Richie said. I have asked what exactly was said as haven’t heard it myself.

I only commented that to say Richie hasn’t made it crystal clear to everyone how highly he rates Charlie is an absolute lie.

I was always supportive in signing him but the ones who didn’t want him were valid too. Until this season, he hadn’t shown himself to be a consistent goalscorer. Now its on him to reproduce this tally every year. The work rate and link up play has always been there.

Also, suggesting RW hasn’t made it clear how much he rates Kelmen is mental. He’s been the most vocal supporter of his ever since he joined.

Playing Kelman in all 42 matches ought to be seen as a sufficiently strong endorsement of his ability by Richie Wellens.

He was a youngster learning the game. This season he’s been a man. The first goal yesterday is the perfect example - he would always have chased that long ball down, just now he knows when to hit the defender to knock him off balance and has the strength to back it up. That won’t go away. Hes now a very, very good L1 striker and will be for the rest of his career,

I still remain to be convinced that he can do it at Championship level where you need that little bit more pace and/or power. Maybe I’m doing him a disservice - especially after the way he ran the Man City defence ragged - but I worry that might be a step too far. But of course hope he gets his chance and smashes it, he fully deserves it.

That and the positive things he’s said about him in every interview he’s ever given about Charlie and how us fans are wrong for doubting him.

To be fair, how many of us on here would have predicted the season the Kelman is having? He always worked hard but never had that proper striker’s attitude. I’ve no idea what he did to find it, but it’s clicked for him this time around.

Only ConfibulatoryFred can lay claim to that one, a thread for the ages.

I was happy when he came back as his work rate was top notch in his first loan and finishing was far better than people were giving him credit for. Glad to see him really take off this season.

I'm surprised any player has hit the 20+ mark as we've not exactly been a free scoring side under RW in the previous seasons. Makes Kelman's tally all the more impressive.

I’m still struggling with the idea that Kelman was so offended by the criticism he got online that he didn’t fancy signing permanently, but the criticism wasn’t strong enough to prevent him signing on a season long loan.

Kelman has scored 4 more goals than Louie Barry did in 23 games for Stockport. Charlie really should be on 30 goals with some of his finishing costing him that mark

“Done well in a poor league” ? I think you must be joking because this year league one has been much tougher than last year . When you think about the amount of money that was splashed about last summer there’s no coincidence all the clubs bar one that splashed to cash and now in the top five . Only Bristol Rovers has it backfired on
