Who will be Released

Post by Lifelongfan »

Piggot, Jayden Sweeney, Dom Ball (not seen enough of him so others may have an opinion),Byrne, Randell williams, Jack Simpson (at his request he only signed a 1 year deal thinking he could get a Champs club- has been okay but I would release)

Becks will get another contract.

Not sure about Pratley?

Out of contract

Phillips
Howes
Beckles
Simpson
Sweeney
Pratley
Ball
Agyei
Williams
Moncur
Pigott
Pegrum
Theo
Jordan Graham

14 out of contract

5 Loans to go back
Keeley
Currie
Donley
Kelman
Markanday

Potent 19 players could depart end of season

In contract

Obiero 1 year
Happe 1 year
James 1 year
Brown 1 year
Perkins 2 years
DJ 1 year
Clare 2 years
Galbraith 1 year option for the club
OON 2 years I think, could be 1 year
Warrington 1 year
Abdulai 2 year
REG 2 years.
Cooper 1 year

Of the above, I would move on Obiero, Sweeney, James, Warrington, Cooper
Galbraith will be sold..

So, add the above 6 to the 19 out of contract/end of loan and we could need 25 players next season.

With the out of contract players I would only try to keep Agyei , Beckles and possibly Simpson and Philips.
Graham and Archibald have been unlucky with injuries but unfortunately we can't carry them any longer . Pratley has been brilliant t but is now too old . Should look at going into coaching . As for the rest , thank you and goodbye .

Ball is an odd one. He looked better and fitter when he first joined us having been without a club for a while. There's a player in there somewhere but hasn't shown enough to be kept on..

Id keep Beckles and Simpson on one year deals and ditch the rest. Agyei would be a big keep but I imagine a bigger club can offer way more money and not be dependent on him staying fit if he picks up more injuries.

Galbraith is 100% getting sold.

There is also Charlie Pegrum. It also begs the question who would want to stay. I think Galbraith and Agyei will want to go no matter what they are offered by the club. Sweeney has done his time at the club. Williams, Simpson and Ball , not sure about. Simpson and Ball may be offered something. I think Pratley , Archibald and Graham are finished here as players. The rest won't be in consideration. That leaves Beckles, who I understand will be offered a new contract

So basically a whole new team? I just hope it gels early on because the cackfest start to this season has denied us a play off place.

The only one I would change in that list is James on the basis he's under contract and needing to find both an LB and RB probably be too risky to let the only player we have for either position go.

Massive rebuild and the bulk of it needs to be permanent signings even if we max out the loan allowance again.

Mostly agree with a couple of caveats

Phillips - play until end of season once playoffs are impossible. Only keep if he shows any kind of promise, we've seen what a good young keeper looks like
Sweeney - bye, had multiple chances this year, not good enough
Theo - train and play on non contract basis only, haven't got budget to waste on sentiment
Pratley - employ as a coach and register as a player for emergency use (wonder how that works re: playing budget?)

As good as he is when he’s fit I think people are massively over estimating how interest there is in Agyei. From an objective view he’s quite a risky signing at L1 level mainly as he has missed a lot of games through injury.

Keep Beckles and Simpson.

Howlers, Sweeney, Ball, Phillips, Piggot and Pegrum all surplus to requirements.

Theo and Graham are finished with us. Shame for both but we can’t afford to keep paying our salaries to players who never play.

Pratley moved into a coaching role.

Seems that Williams bloke is on Wellens’ sh*t list already so reckon he’s gone.

Of the loanees we should try to sign Kelman and Curry on a permanent, see if Spurs will let us hand Keeley for another year. Donley I imagine will be sent to the championship somewhere and Markandey isn’t all that. Although I wouldn’t be shocked if we end up signing him on a permanent.

Of the in contract players, I would guess that given the already large rebuild needed the club will want to keep all of them. If we had a choice I’d say get rid of:

DJ
Warrington
Cooper

Galbraith is going to be signed by a Championship club.

When taken into account our loan players who will be going back to their parent clubs then yes , it’s going to be a big rebuild in the Summer . Although I doubt it I’m hoping we can either sign or get to have those players back on loan again .

I would give Dom Ball another deal. I think he’s a good character and worthy of a place in the squad. Even more so if Prats hangs his boots up.

Agreed on Agyei.

People seem to forget he chose to sign for us less than 2 years ago. His stock hasn’t massively increased in that time. And as much as I like him, he’s still not really a Wellens player.

Of the out of contract players listed above I hope that club makes a real effort to sign Agyei, Beckles & Simpson . Ball has been pretty much restricted to cameo appearances so that’s a 50/50 imo. I don’t know enough about Phillips to comment.
Of the contracted players I would agree that Obiero and Sweeney should go. I personally doubt that we will see Warrington again and that he has - in effect - already left the club. I think we’ll keep the rest, although IF the right sort of offer comes in for Galbraith and it benefits the club overall then inevitably he will move on.

Something needs to be done to ensure that new players don't take too long to gel as a team. As has been said if we'd had an average start this season we would already be in the play offs. Let's hope Wellens recognises the problem and does something to solve it for next season. The promotion season we started like a train, I'd be interested to know how many new players we had then.

The whole debate must depend on what happens if/when the new investors come on board. It's possible our wage bill budget moves up by a significant amount. At that point, some players who may have chosen to move on may decide to stay at a familiar and well funded L1 cub. Equally we may be able to afford upgrades!

Hunt, Kelman, Moncur, El Miz then Sadlier, Turns, McCart in the Jan. Excluding Wareham and SDM as they barely played.

Most of our best players are loans. Great. When you look at the lists it would be laughable if we got promoted.

If we were promoted why would a lot of our players not want to have a new contract, unless they didn't like being here? We would get a bigger payout from Sky and if this takeover happens and Galbraith goes for over 1.5 million there's going to be a much bigger pot for buting and paying wages. Spurs would be interested in Donley and Keeley being on loan again at a higher level, as might QPR and Oxford.
