Newcastle
Great to see their fans getting something to celebrate, reminds me of how it felt seeing Orient win a League title. Love to see it.

Re: Newcastle
The way a lot of their - up til then usually brilliant - fans have either turned a blind eye to, or gone on the defensive about, their owners' antics leaves a sour taste in the mouth but they've waited a long old while and it's still good to see someone other than City, Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal or Liverpool win something.

Re: Newcastle
It really annoys me when the pundits, presenters, journalists etc. say 'ended the wait for a major trophy'.
Surely winning The EFL Championship trophy is major? If they didn't win that then they would not be in a position to do what they did today.
All competitive trophies are major and the meida downgrade all of them apart from 3 or 4.

Half my family are geordies and I still have an 85 year old Nan who watches every game she can in her shirt so I’m made up for her
Also mental that she hasn’t celebrated a cup since she was 15

Winning the 2nd tier? As far as I know you win a very historic trophy if you do just that...Currywurst and Chips wrote: ↑Sun Mar 16, 2025 8:52 pm Half my family are geordies and I still have an 85 year old Nan who watches every game she can in her shirt so I’m made up for her

Re: Newcastle
The point is that it's still a major trophy. No pundit, media group etc has ever said a cup competition. They have just said 'major trophy'.Currywurst and Chips wrote: ↑Sun Mar 16, 2025 9:18 pmThe Championship isn’t a cup competition mateLoyal_Supporter wrote: ↑Sun Mar 16, 2025 8:58 pmWinning the 2nd tier? Re: Newcastle
It can’t be a “major trophy” if by definition the 20 top ranked teams in the country can’t win it.

Maybe she just didn't really celebrate that one as it was considered a bit of a Mickey Mouse tourney at the timeCurrywurst and Chips wrote: ↑Mon Mar 17, 2025 7:55 amI’ll text my Nan and tell her she’s made a mistakeStory of O wrote: ↑Mon Mar 17, 2025 7:52 amThey won the European Fairs cup in 1969Currywurst and Chips wrote: ↑Sun Mar 16, 2025 8:52 pm Half my family are geordies and I still have an 85 year old Nan who watches every game she can in her shirt so I’m made up for her

Is this a new "he's 28 until he becomes 29" thing?

Re: Newcastle
Pleased for the Geordie fanbase, and it pees off the armchair plastics that attach themselves to Liverpool which is an additional bonus.

Re: Newcastle
I used to like Newcastle in the Keegan era. Sadly, the club has now broken ground in the PL greed era by being owned by the Saudi Government - a bastion of sportswashing & human rights abuses. I hope this is the first & last trophy they win under the current owners.Proposition Joe wrote: ↑Sun Mar 16, 2025 8:37 pm The way a lot of their - up til then usually brilliant - fans have either turned a blind eye to, or gone on the defensive about, their owners' antics leaves a sour taste in the mouth but they've waited a long old while and it's still good to see someone other than City, Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal or Liverpool win something.
Re: Newcastle
My best man was a Geordie, back in 1972 - at college together. So pleased for them, and with results going the right way we could see either a new name on the FA Cup, eg Bournemoputh or Fulham, or eg Newwcastle Villa or Forest who haven't won it since Forest did in 1959.Great for the FA Cup to see most of the usual suspects out.

Re: Newcastle
Any of the remaining 7 clubs who aren't Manchester City winning the FA Cup would be great. A new side in the CL (Forest still looking good), plus both domestic cups going to someone from outside the Big 5 would be a minor fillip for the game as a whole.
