Don't Panic
So boringly predictable to rip into Ross Embleton, his preferred formation and most of the players after that terrible display. However, Swindon were a cut above us today and look like a side that is going to be up there this season. Most people agreed that a mid table finish would be fine for us this season. We are still very much in touch with that. So, don't panic. Although I know that won't stop lots of people on here doing just that!

Re: Don't Panic
We were playing poorly in most games for the last few months under JE against poorer opposition last season. The team are going to get punished at this level abit more.
Perhaps, they should start with the team that ended today, with Angol instead of Wilkinson, just a thought. Need to change things for the next game. We set out our stall today and basically gave Swindon too much respect from the off.

Re: Don't Panic
If he keeps repeating the same mistakes, the same poor tactics and getting same poor response from the players we'll be in a relegation fight. I wouldn't back him in one of those being brutally honest.Walthamsto wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2019 5:23 pm So boringly predictable to rip into Ross Embleton, his preferred formation and most of the players after that terrible display. It's pretty worrying when you set out not to concede and find yourself 3 goals down at half time. Team is lacking quality

Re: Don't Panic
I would think its fairly certain that Ross will be replaced at some point this season, the question is when?
I suspect the owners will leave it as long as we are not close to the bottom place, maybe even during the close season next May
Ross doesn't seem to have the qualities or the know how IMO, nice guy that he is, & i would replace him before January, so the new guy can have a go in the transfer market in the New Year

Re: Don't Panic
Not about panicking. Too soon for that. But it is about taking stock of our performances so far and how that affects our potential to have a season that doesn’t focus on the bottom.
Thus far, bar Mansfield second half, our season has been average to poor. Well below what we can expect from the players we have. And I don’t see too much to suggest it will get better. That is the worry. Hugely negative formation. We are not at the end of a campaign trying to get the points we need for promotion but trying to develop the season.
And we are shipping goals. The writing is on the wall. We concede too easily and we don’t score many. Recipe for failure. Does RE have the knowledge and experience to remedy the situation. No in my opinion. More of the same to look forward to.

Re: Don't Panic
After that shambles time to speak to Mr Travis & Mr Teague and ask to return to his coaching role. Start interviewing over the next few weeks and give a new manager a bit of time to see what he can get out of the existing squad before the window opens.ComeOnYouOs wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2019 5:52 pm I would think its fairly certain that Ross will be replaced at some point this season, the question is when?

When you dont put one cross into the opposition box in the first half, i think you have grounds to panic.

When you get 30% possession at home in the first half we have grounds to panic. Sod the crosses, let’s just get the bloody ball.Story of O wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2019 6:12 pm When you dont put one cross into the opposition box in the first half, i think you have grounds to panic.
Re: Don't Panic
Bit knee-jerk to write him off after just one performance isn't it.
I ain't happy about the defence, seven games in and we have conceded three goals in 3 of them. I have to say the signs were there in pre-season, we spent much of it with 3 at the back and Norwich kids pushed us all the way, and they were probably the hardest team we faced apart from Hull reserves.
But today was the first real unacceptable overall performance we've had this season. I would still think Ross deserves a chance to show he can fix it, although I am quite sceptical that defence is his strong point. Even when he was caretaker last time we were not good defensively, it took Justin to come in and fix that.

Re: Don't Panic
The bigger picture of today is that he doesn't learn from his mistakes. The 5-3-2 doesn't work, it nullifies our attack and defence has gone from being an asset to our weak point. Playing that at home today was raising the white flag before the game even kicked off.eagwgw wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2019 6:18 pm Bit knee-jerk to write him off after just one performance isn't it.

It's also the approach to today's game that for me shows he's not the man for the job. Went full "little Leyton Orient" with the tactics and that filters through to the players. They didn't ever seem to believe they could take on Swindon today and that's embarrassing.
End of the day fair play to him for stepping in as the caretaker, same as he did after Davis' sacking but in both cases performances and application hasn't been good enough on the pitch. Time to step aside and go back to what he's good at.

Re: Don't Panic
I worried about the pace of this division from last season. Our defence and midfield is so much lacking in this department that even an experienced manager wouldn't have made much difference. This was indeed a big wake up call today.
