Encore pareil next season
RW to rebuild the team again - provided he’s still here - poor start to the season, good middle section followed by a disappointing end. Middle table again! Cest la vie!

Agreed. We certainly would have been in the sh!t if we had managed to get promotion!
Hope Wellens stays but have my doubts.

Re: Encore pareil next season
Massive rebuild ahead, looking at a good 15 players unless Spurs and Oxford are feeling really generous and let us keep Keeley, Donley and Currie...
GK - 2 new players (Keeley loan end, Howes release)
LB - 2 new players (Currie loan end, move Sweeney on)
CB - 2 new players (Simpson end of contract, move Cooper on)
RB - 2 new players (Galbraith back to CM or sold, Clare now a CM)
James could in theory be the reserve RB / LB though in an ideal world would move him on too, injury record is a concern
CM - replace Ball (not convinced by him), Pratley (might choose now as the time to move to coaching), Galbraith (sold?)
CAM - Abdulai replaces Donley so may be OK there, need maybe 1 more
Wingers - a fair bit of churn here with the loanees and also need to release both Graham and Archibald to free up much needed wages. The latter could join on non-contract later down the line if he gets fit. At least 2 required
Striker - up to 3 new strikers required once Kelman (end of loan) and Agyei (end of contract) go plus we've been one short since January 2024 which needs to be addressed

You left out Markanday ( loan) and Williams ( short term contract) both of whom I would imagine will be leaving.gshaw wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 6:00 pm Massive rebuild ahead, looking at a good 15 players unless Spurs and Oxford are feeling really generous and let us keep Keeley, Donley and Currie...

Indeed, some of the loanees will have learnt a lot from this season. However we're highly unlikely to see any benefit from that. The Reverend wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 6:48 pmThat doesn’t really work when you build a squad of loanees.

Maybe we should hire a Barista Coach to improve the coffee production process

Re: Encore pareil next season
Well, you could argue that we knew promotion was very hard this year - Richie said as much in the summer and for a good few months into the season. It was probably discussed in some way when deciding where to put our money and was decided that building a squad that has a couple of years of stability should wait until next year. The Reverend wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 6:48 pmThat doesn’t really work when you build a squad of loanees.
We’ve outperformed everyone’s expectations. When the dust settles we’ll all look back at this season as a success and perhaps a necessary building block for a promotion push next year

Re: Encore pareil next season
Exactly. We need lots of players. We never do anything quickly in the transfer market. We will be in the bottom four after 10 games. Rinse and repeat. I guess such is life being an orient fan. Not sure RW will put up with it though and will probably be off.

We really need to replace Happe as well. As good a cb as he is, he breaks down every year.

Read again, we won't benefit next season from whatever they've learnt this year unless their parent clubs are feeling particularly generous in letting them come back for a second spellRich Tea Wellin wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 6:58 pmYeah, we’ve not had any benefit from Kelman, donely, keeley etc…gshaw wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 6:54 pmIndeed, some of the loanees will have learnt a lot from this season. So? We probably won’t benefit from Galbraith or Agyei. Just like we won’t benefit next year from Cox or Terry Howard.gshaw wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 8:17 pmRead again, we won't benefit next season from whatever they've learnt this year unless their parent clubs are feeling particularly generous in letting them come back for a second spellRich Tea Wellin wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 6:58 pmYeah, we’ve not had any benefit from Kelman, donely, keeley etc…![]()

Re: Encore pareil next season
Same old, same old.Lack of depth in quality and quality of players at the club.
I appreciate Nigel Travis saving the club but it was obvious with the size of the stadium that as soon as we knew we were promoted to League 1 that an urgent search for massive investment was needed, that happened far too late and that’s why we are where we are now.I feel so sorry for our amazing Manager RW who has had to try and make a silk purse from a sows ear.
Last year when we just failed to get in the play offs is proof in the pudding that investors were sought far too late.
I hope RW stays and we get the massive investment needed to build a quality in depth squad capable of at least the play offs next year.
Up the O’s

Re: Encore pareil next season
You can't just pluck new investors out of a hat , it takes time . Due diligence also takes time . Look at what happened on a previous occasion. God forbid that ever happens again . I'm happy to be patient because the club is progressing in the right direction.PoundhillO wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 9:22 pm Same old, same old.Lack of depth in quality and quality of players at the club.

Edit . Just to add I agree Richie is an amazing manager . If we can get the right new investment I'm very confident Richie can take us up to the next level .

Re: Encore pareil next season
I think it’s unfair to say ‘same old, same old’, the Jan transfer window cost the O’s a serious amount of money in transfer fees & wages. The bod backed RW
We’ve just been unfortunate with the schedule and the concentration of injuries to the back line.
