Currie Red
You can actually see the tag back on Currie from this angle before he makes the perfectly clean tackle. Should have been a free kick to us.
Who was the ref? Has he had games with this big a crowd before? That can be the only explanation for this decision.

Re: Currie Red
I don’t even think it’s a foul. His studs are not showing. Yes he’s gone into the guy afterwards but only with his toes down. It’s not high, it’s not late, it’s not dangerous. Still furious. Jack must be livid!

Re: Currie Red
It seems to me that as soon as you take both feet off the floor the refs are looking to send you off. Can't see it getting rescinded, they'll still say it's reckless.

Re: Currie Red
I’m going to be in the minority here but he takes off with both feet off the ground into that lunge. I can see why the ref has given him a red. As soon as you leave the floor you’re no longer in control and it can be deemed as a wreckless and dangerous challenge.

Re: Currie Red
You’re wrong.
He doesn’t ’take off’. He’s shrugging off the Birmingham player pulling him back.
The Lino’s non-reaction tells you all you need to know.

As bad a decision as it is it won’t get overturned. Only hope is if we appeal it will happen after Saturday so he’s available

Re: Currie Red
Got to be honest, on first viewing that doesn’t look great to me. I can see why the ref gave it. I don’t think the club will appeal on that showing. That’s a 3 match ban then, ffs.

Re: Currie Red
This is where we need the expertise of OFF to give us his professional opinion on the decision.
Off subject I think OFF has been the subject to a TikTok reel or whatever they are called having an altercation with a player while refereeing a 5 a side game.

Re: Currie Red
The fact we are even debating if it’s a red shows how pathetic football has become when it comes to physical contact. What does high degree of danger even mean. He got clipped on the leg for gods sake. They won’t be happy until it’s a game of basketball. Which it almost is already.

Re: Currie Red
Watching it from the stand in the ground, my first thought and my mate also, was that he could get a red here. We, the ref also, had only one angle to look at and made a decision from that. Looking back it looks harsh, but at the time not a surprise.

Re: Currie Red
One to forget about really. Can't do anything about it - we have a LB in waiting who has a chance to show what he's made of now and that game won't define our season.

Re: Currie Red
That’s an interesting perspective. Watching it on the stream it never occurred to me he was in danger. The lino gave a throw in. Personally I think the Birmingham players might have got in his head. The Mindsweep wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2025 8:42 am Watching it from the stand in the ground, my first thought and my mate also, was that he could get a red here. I was really shocked when he pulled out the red card.

Well done to his fellow professionals who rolled around and told the ref to send him off, they must be so proud.

Him having both feet off the ground or him having both feet of the ground being dangerous and reckless?
I’m assuming the latter because there’s a video in this thread where you can clearly see him with both feet off the ground.
Whether or not that’s automatically reckless is a fair question and I don’t necessarily agree that it is but I can see why a ref might deem it to be.
Basically, I don’t think it’s as absurd a decision as many on here are making it out to be.

Re: Currie Red
I think the issue is more with the rule than with the application in that situation. Refs are obviously given a clear instruction now that any challenge where a player takes both feet off the ground and makes any contact with the player is an automatic red. The fact that he's given a nudge in the build up, that he cleanly gets the ball, hits the foot not ankle in the follow through, studs aren't up - those aren't factors anymore.

Re: Currie Red
The idea of a red card didn’t even enter my head in real time. I was shocked to see him even give the free kick, which he took some time to give.
I guarantee if that was the other way, a red card is not issued.

Re: Currie Red
We've all seen worse "fouls" than that escape with just a talking to by the ref, sometimes not even that!
IMO there is an element of home team and crowd pressure on the ref.
However, I'm proud of the remaining players keeping the ball out until the 53rd minute and then if Keeley had been able to hold the ball, they would not have scored at that time.
But, onwards to Saturday, which will be another toughie. But I think RW will be able to raise the players for the game.

Oh, the players are going to be well up for Saturday.
Us fans just have to match that.

Agreed. Only the other week we saw Pratley chopped at the knee by a Stockport player right under the nose of the referee and didn’t even get a free kick.EliotNes wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2025 9:40 am We've all seen worse "fouls" than that escape with just a talking to by the ref, sometimes not even that!

As others have said, the officiating does seem very poor and inconsistent.
