:( We've reached a point where a republican who believes in organised labour, and reducing wealth inequality is no longer described as a lefty.

I don't think Dwarf""""yyy is a republican but I could be wrong.

If you were less sectarian you might just get the trendy lefty tag you crave for.

Believe it or not, I’m not a Republican . My views tend to straddle both left and right . I despair of both main political parties. Both have been given a chance and both have buggered things up . I’ve come to the conclusion there isn’t a politician born I agree 💯% with.

You are jumping the gun nothing has been decided yet. They are only preliminary talks. There cannot be any peace still without Ukraine. Everybody knows that including the Americans.
There can be and certainly without Zelensky , he will be gone with few weeks.

But you seem happy to champion Trump - even though he’s now showing his true colours. His appeasement of Putin is sickening, done purely for his own gratification and profit. Yet you still support him?

I think it's because being being a lefty, and being a wet liberal lettuce, have become conflated positions. Although, and I have found this interesting, some of the most anti-corporatist/globalist elite views I'm coming across are actually being expressed from the hard right.

Maybe you need to look beyond the rhetoric of the far right. It's more a matter of what they do not what they say.

I think you've missed the point I was trying to make. There is clearly a broad constituency for rejecting the agenda of the global capital elite. If the left could stop being so easily dragged into absurdist extremes on cultural positions, and focus on clear messaging around economic issues, they would probably be doing a lot better than they currently are.

Maintaining such discipline could also have reduced the available oxygen for the far right to exploit and propagate.

That’s what I mean. 20 years ago the conspiracy theories were all on the left and the enemy was the right wing establishment. Now it’s the opposite. Right wing looneys blaming “woke liberal” governments on the left.

The shift is strange

It really is just a case that unless you simper to trump he’s your enemy. And if you don’t you can play him to your example

Haven't I been saying this for the last 40 years?

I get so tired when you use this blanket term "the Left". Be more precise please. A lot of those cultural progressives are just metropolitan left leaning liberals with no real idea how to identify and challenge power in a capitalist society.

Did you ever read my final year dissertation on Gramsci and how the so called Marxists at Marxism today were talking pish.

That is true. To do it took a lot money, bad actors and political parties who had no problem with the rich getting stinking rich.
