Re: Perkins signs
When Sonny first came here, he was terrible, utterly terrible. He's improved a lot since, but for me he needs to improve loads more to justify a place in this team.
He has an eye for a pass, and he has very quick feet, but his lack of pace worries me ( you cant coach pace into a player), and at times he looks disinterested.
Good luck to the lad, but as far as im concerned, the juries out

Re: Perkins signs
Very good news, welcome Sonny Perkins as a permanent O
nice one Sonny, nice one son nice one Sonny, lets score another one
Will Perkins come straight in on RW
Markanday over to left
Abdulai in centre alongside Brown
Or
Will James come in at RB and Ethan play on left with Abdulai in CM alongside Brown?

Re: Perkins signs
You could say he was terrible- utterly terrible, or, you could say he was a young player acclimitising to a new club/team-mates/ a competitive and fast division; and in my opinion that should be taken into account, though not by you of course.Qin wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 6:18 pm When Sonny first came here, he was terrible, utterly terrible. Hopefully people are more understanding of you in your job - if you have one.
He does have an eye for a pass And quick feet, but actually I'd say that is the stuff you can't coach (rather than pace). Creativity is something a player has, or hasn't, at least to a certain degree.
With diet/training/strength/repetition, a player can always learn to run a bit faster, but the creative side of the game is more elusive. No doubt Richie has seen that and that's why we've signed Sonny.

Re: Perkins signs
Just no pleasing some fans, Perkins has improved so much in a few months under RW, and will continue to improve.Qin wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2025 6:18 pm When Sonny first came here, he was terrible, utterly terrible. We have signed a good prospect and turned a loan into a permanent signing.
Welcome back Sonny, as a permanent signing and ignore the negative fans who are expecting us to sign Saka on the right
Re: Perkins signs
Mr W must see something in him whilst training, so hopefully he will push him on to more consistent performances. Up the Os !

Re: Perkins signs
I think saying the juries out is fair enough.
Half the times he’s played for us he’s looked non league. I’m pretty happy to have him (as long as we didn’t splurge the budget) and I see potential that will be nurtured under Wellens.
But he’s also one of those players that people are moaning about in 18 months time as a bad signing, what were we thinking, etc…

Re: Perkins signs
I just can’t believe Richie has had him in training for 6 months and got it wrong. He’s going to be the business, in time.

Re: Perkins signs
I am confident we will have a player in Sonny, you only have to look at the improvement/progress in young players under RW & his coaching team.
Perkins will only get better with playing on a regular basis, we have already seen that in Sonny when he has had a regular run in the team.
Just look at the Spurs boys, the same, playing regular, they are now probably in with a shout of being in L1 team of season.
Which can only be good news for future loans between Orient & Spurs.l
Same for Kelman, was doing nothing at QPR, loan at Wigan was a flop, but for us RW has got the best out of Kelman.
Perkins will be a good signing, in RW we trust

Re: Perkins signs
RW has had much more opportunity to look at him than we have. He’s showed glimpses that he can be decent. His big weakness for is the number of times he loses possession and he can get bullied a bit. I think RW will have him in the gym over the summer.Stan1972 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 12:33 am I am confident we will have a player in Sonny, you only have to look at the improvement/progress in young players under RW & his coaching team.

Re: Perkins signs
RW has been so ruthless with players so far that I really can’t see him signing someone he doesn’t completely back. He’s not been one to stick with anyone he doesn’t fully trust so I think we’re going to see Perkins really push on in the next 12 months.

Re: Perkins signs
He needs to use his height more and with his physique there must be some muscle in there to get the better of defenders. If he doesn't do this, I can't see him doing much for us. But in RW & ML we must trust.
