I definitely want good news. Why wouldn’t I. I don’t give a toss about the party running the country, just want some progress, or at least signs of progress even during difficult times. Starmer and his crew are screwing up big time and in record time. I hope they rid themselves of the L plates sooner rather than later. Who in their right minds want to be heading for a recession.

Latest report dated 13th December 2024 warns of issues facing the force next year with current funding projections expected to simply cover expected increased costs. Despite NI costs being covered.

The issue being the latest objectives set by the current Government need more funding if they are to be met. In fact many jobs may be lost despite this being a priority area for the Government.

The issue is that the Government are making promises that the budgets do not match. Irrespective of any past cuts, this is a current issue whereby one thing is being promised as a priority yet funding is insufficient to meet that priority. Going forward!

The cuts are being projected for 2025. Let’s hope Cooper stumps up more cash soon.

The stats show numbers dropped post financial crisis, the Tories grappling with no money. For the next 7 or 8 years numbers dropped alarmingly. A bad time following the Global Financial Crisis. By 2018 numbers hit their lowest point for years. Little credit to go round. Let’s hope those times don’t return.

Effort was made to restore numbers and by 2023 were a little above pre-crisis. Are these numbers good enough? Is there enough money? The police, like unions and others, always want more. Looking after their own. Why not! They applied pressure on the Tories and are doing exactly the same to Labour.

The issue going forward is simple, Government have set objectives and need to fund them. Cooper has set objectives but has yet to sufficiently cover the direct and indirect cost increases the police (everyone) will face going forward following the budget. A consequence being in 2025, cuts rather than increases are being forecast.

The current issues are purely on the current Government. Talk is cheap. Unless they are backed up with sufficient funding it’s not going to end well.
