Re: HOW LONG NOW FOR RICHIE
Richie has been let down big time by the board during the summer.
The dross that was brought in made what is now happening inevitable.
Give Richie the tools, & he'll do the job.
I'm happy for Richie to be here, we couldn't get anyone better, that's for sure

Nothing to do with the board - he's just not half as good as what most of you (on this board, anyway) think he is.

I’m also happy for Wellens to remain in charge for the time being but to imply that it’s impossible for the club to get anyone who could do a better job is frankly ridiculous.

Re: HOW LONG NOW FOR RICHIE
I think that's right. Interesting as to whether by definition Wellens not being as good at getting the most out of his players as Slade and Edinburgh is trumped by his putatively superior tactics and "knowledge". Slade took a team to third in this division, which based on my undertsanding of how leagues and league tables work, hasn't been matched by Wellens, and likely on a significantly lower proportionate budget.Chief crazy horse wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 11:31 amWell, those tactics are not working are they.. his team have been serving up, by and large, dross for the last season and half. His disciplinary record is also a disgrace which is reflected on his team. And as far as those aforementioned ex Orient managers go he doesn't hold a candle to them as far as an endearing personality goes.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 10:10 amCant comment on Bloomfield.Orient_Man_And_Boy wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 7:08 am
I must disagree: Jimmy Bloomfield, Russell Slade and Justin Edinburgh were more likeable and better managers.
Slade and Edinburgh were undoubtedly good man managers and got the most out of players. But Wellens is a far better tactician and much more knowledgable than either, especially Justin. There's no comparison on that front.
Wellens has apparently been bemoaning the effect people offering opinions on forums of the relative merits of the footballers they pay to watch has on those players: I would have thought that your manager during a game jumping up and down and throwing his water bottle to the ground every time you misplace a pass, shouting less than encouraging comments while the game is in progress and constantly having exchanges during the match that the players seem less than enamoured with (there was one with Agyei last night), might have a more deleterious effect.
I recall Kevin Nolan being asked at a Meet the Manager night whether criticism of the players by fans was affecting their performance and he laughed out loud and said Orient was the nicest most polite club he had been at.

Re: HOW LONG NOW FOR RICHIE
At the risk of repeating myself the money is as high as it has ever been. The money has been wasted. Our League two winning team was better than what we have now. Our budget is supposedly much bigger than it was back then. I don’t blame the board. I bet NT is pretty annoyed much of his money has been wasted.DuvB wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 10:57 amThe money needed to compete in L1 this season wasn't available unfortunatelyDrWindy wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 10:50 pmWhy blame the board for our recruitment?RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 10:46 pm
I've it before and I'll say it again , Richie is one of the best managers this club has ever had . If Richie left we'd get relegated for sure . I don't blame the manager for our blight , I blame the board . Our recruitment during the Summer was pants . You could see we were going to hit trouble by the calibre of signings we were making . TBH, I can't see our recruitment being any better in January so we're in deep sh*t this season .

Indeed, on one hand I feel for Travis as he's seemingly now carrying the financial burden on his own and his heart is in the right place wanting the best for the club he too supports.DrWindy wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 12:36 pm At the risk of repeating myself the money is as high as it has ever been. On the other hand no action has been taken to change staffing or processes in regard to recruitment so reaping what's been sown there.
Time to make changes further up at DoF level and give Richie a chance with fresh recruitment ideas else the cycle will just repeat itself. The current situation has a very Jackett-esque feel to it after similar recruitment issues in his time as manager.

The parallels between what happened to Jackett as a result of mediocre player recruitment and what is happening now to Wellens are clear to see.gshaw wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 12:59 pmIndeed, on one hand I feel for Travis as he's seemingly now carrying the financial burden on his own and his heart is in the right place wanting the best for the club he too supports.DrWindy wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 12:36 pm At the risk of repeating myself the money is as high as it has ever been. Even the year before in Jan 2021. :- Abrahams, Freeman, Kemp & Thompson ( always injured) . None of them could be described as successful recruits imo.gshaw wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 1:04 pmCast your mind back to January 2022 for that answerMax B Gold wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 1:02 pm I wonder if changing the manager would solve the recruitment issues.

Unless you have money to buy some quality there's usually only dross on offer in January.redintheface wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 2:17 pmEven the year before in Jan 2021. :- Abrahams, Freeman, Kemp & Thompson ( always injured) . Sometimes, you can get lucky with the odd nugget but the hit rate isn't very high.

You mean, your never ending praise of the manager despite the dire situation we're in and the dire performances 'his' team display on a regular basis..The club is in trouble under his leadership. I put this to Matt Porter after his "all players are approved by the manager" comment the other week, seems "ask me anything" didn't extend to the really awkward questionsMax B Gold wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 2:20 pm What makes you say its happening to Wellens? Agree. Theo is a good player in this team but some of the glowing praise he gets on here is way over the top. And he's not the only one...
(Ps..and the best of luck to him with his injury)

The DoF appointed Fletcher and Embleton (two sackable offences right there)
The DoF gave Jackett the worst January transfer window the club had ever seen leaving us on the brink of NL before Richie bailed him out
Basically the success he claims as his own relied on two strong managers doing things their way, with a squad of pros. Once the old tropes of weak youth players and injury prone signings come back round then the cycle repeats again.
We often talk about the Brentford / Peterborough model but we still look miles away from getting anywhere near that.
