Re: FAO Tories and UKIPers
It is not true to suggest farmers are now paid less than 0.5% of the budget they received prior to Brexit. As per the Government’s manifesto, the full £2.4 billion per year previously awarded in EU farming subsidies is continuing to go to farmers.

Don't forget, they still get subsisidy from the Government after Brexit.
How much more do these farmers expect?
Cheers Tories

Not always. From specialised leasing companies and sometimes from an agricultural Co-OpHoover Attack wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 1:55 pmFrom the local big farmer. Who hasn't paid any IHT.Max B Gold wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 1:05 pm
Reality is that on many tenanted farms and small and medium sized farms, they rent the expensive machinery for short periods during ploughing, harvest etc.

Re: FAO Tories and UKIPers
The same Brexit voters crying alligator tears over this presumably have nothing to say about the loss of EU subsidies, loss of sales to our biggest agricultural market (the EU) and the signing of free trade deals that provide an advantage to countries with lower regulations that allow them to undercut British farmers (such as Australia and New Zealand)? All of which are combining to kill British farming anyway.
Almost as if they don't actually give a sh*t.

Farmers pay their way especially in hard work. They are the backbone of the country.

That's 20.7 billion since 2015 according to this

How much was that billions of £'s missing in the Tory black hole the chancellor mentioned?

Re: FAO Tories and UKIPers
The issue is with the whole supply chain. Farmers are paid peanuts compared to what the big Supermarkets will retail the produce for. Are Tesco's about to go bust - I don't think so.
Then you have the bonkers land prices which inflate a farm's value and into the realm of higher IHT and consider why is this so, only to to realise that Clarkson, Dyson and many, many others, are buying land purely to escape taxes thus hiking up land prices ridiculously by doing so. These "investors" are screwing the farmers much more than the Government are.

So much wrong in such a short post. Can we all stop paying tax once weve paid a certain amount? Or choose which taxes we're willing to pay?Yanzi Gravy wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 3:53 pmIt is not just about the farmers though, they do pay their way, they cannot avoid or cheat tax. This is just closing a tax exemption.
Lets face it, you dont really care about farmers. You're just cheering for your team.

Don't usually quote Marina Hyde, but this is mildly amusing:

"Finally, an answer to what would happen if Maga had sex with the People’s Vote. I assume we don’t use the phrase “b*stard offspring” any longer, but in this case I’ll be making an exception."

Re: FAO Tories and UKIPers
My team as you put it is a farming family and we are not talking about a multimillion pounds , not even sure they will be affected , all being reviewed by their accountant. This policy probably aimed at ‘wealthy Tories’ but will backfire badly.Long slender neck wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2024 5:01 pmSo much wrong in such a short post. Re: FAO Tories and UKIPers
I deal with loads of farmers, they actually botheted to read the bill, liked it and is better for 90% of them. Hence demo had lack of farmers. Why the working class support land owners is soooo odd lol

Such as farmers averaging, agricultural buildings allowance, 100% first year allowances on plant and machinery, IHT exemption, govt hand outs, no duty on fuel and so on. But its monopoly capitalism that's killing them and squeezing their margins.

The have certain exceptions and allowances due to the complex industry they are in. Farming is a very difficulty industry and has one of the highest suicide rates. Farmers pay other taxes alongside their main farming levies.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2024 12:38 amThey literally do not pay tax like the rest of us. Re: FAO Tories and UKIPers
Complex industry? it’s the oldest, simplest business there is. All you need is acres and acres of land and away you go.
The reason they receive all these benefits is because the people making the laws are the same people that own all the land. And the little people just can’t see it and come out to argue their case for them. Sad.
Sorry to hear about their suicide rates, I wasn’t aware of that. Mental health issues aren’t really an excuse to get out of paying tax though. Maybe if they did pay their taxes, their would be better social care that they could access?

What "other taxes" do they pay ? Is there some special tax that only farmers pay that I'm unaware of?Yanzi Gravy wrote: ↑Thu Nov 28, 2024 5:10 amThe have certain exceptions and allowances due to the complex industry they are in. Re: FAO Tories and UKIPers
By the way suicide rates by occupation are published in great detail, albeit a few years behind.
Managers and proprietors in agriculture related services have a suicide rate about 5 times less than teachers.
Agricultural workers have a much higher rate.
As already pointed out I'm not sure why a higher risk of suicide should be linked to a tax exemption, but I just wanted to point out you're wrong.
