Re: Fans booing their own players
Think I'm more likely to boo at home than away tbh. I do recall some decent booooos after we got pumped 5-0 at Doncaster once in the early 00s. Only reason most people stayed til the end.

That 5th goal
And it's all part and parcel of supporting a team that plays in a League where matches aren't supposed to have pre-arranged outcomes. I don't recall writing to Hearn and asking him to refund my train fare and match ticket.

For a few seasons when I sat with Dunnem in the North Stand, if Orient were putting in a stinker we’d have to find our enjoyment spotting other fans having a meltdown and losing the plot. Naturally, we’d peer over to the West Stand if see if things were going OFF & what antics the little drummer boy was up to for peak chuckles. Happy days.

You pays your money , you have the absolute right to cheer or boo at anytime during the game can’t see any problem at all.
Why should a team play rubbish and expect no booing from the supporters who attend and help pay their wages.
It’s called freedom of expression.

If we limited football discussion to what can be “proved” this board would be blank, but here’s an interesting article from a while back that argue that point (among others)

Look up the definition of supporter in the dictionary. Anybody has the right to boo, but not to call themselves a supporter at the same time, when they are doing the opposite.PoundhillO wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2024 7:32 pmYou pays your money , you have the absolute right to cheer or boo at anytime during the game can’t see any problem at all.

Re: Fans booing their own players
I think you are splitting hairs here. The question is, should fans / supporters / customers have the right to boo what is in front of them if they don’t like it - the answer is a clear ‘Yes’.Chelmsford Swimmer wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2024 11:44 pmLook up the definition of supporter in the dictionary. A supporter is someone that pays to watch their team as I have done for over 60 years, as a supporter who pays to see my team I have the right to cheer or boo my team at anytime during the game to express my satisfaction or dissatisfaction with how they are playing.Nobody will ever change my mind on that.Chelmsford Swimmer wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2024 11:44 pmLook up the definition of supporter in the dictionary. Re: Fans booing their own players
you have the right to boo but the question for me is whether that's useful. And i don't think it is. I think it makes it worse. As per the article I shared above.

Ah yes. In the FA Cup replay against Arsenal, I was sat with Conkles and A-Stud at the Emirates where we got a close-up of a full-blown meltdown aimed at fellow orient fans for failing to display sufficient passion. I think he genuinely believed that this was a key factor behind Arsenal slotting home their fifth goal against us.slacker wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2024 6:19 pm For a few seasons when I sat with Dunnem in the North Stand, if Orient were putting in a stinker we’d have to find our enjoyment spotting other fans having a meltdown and losing the plot. A very dispiriting evening all round*, and the only time I ever left an Orient match early. Although I didn't boo anyone.Dunners wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2024 9:53 amAh yes. Every right to boo, not disputing that, but don't think you are a supporter.PoundhillO wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2024 9:37 amA supporter is someone that pays to watch their team as I have done for over 60 years, as a supporter who pays to see my team I have the right to cheer or boo my team at anytime during the game to express my satisfaction or dissatisfaction with how they are playing.Nobody will ever change my mind on that.Chelmsford Swimmer wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2024 11:44 pmLook up the definition of supporter in the dictionary. Re: Fans booing their own players
Of course I approve of them or I wouldn’t be paying to see them for over 60 years. Of course I encourage , what supporter wouldn't, so I fall within that definition. However I still can express my discontent by booing if despite my approval of my team and my encouragement the team then play poorly.Chelmsford Swimmer wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2024 10:35 amEvery right to boo, not disputing that, but don't think you are a supporter.PoundhillO wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2024 9:37 amA supporter is someone that pays to watch their team as I have done for over 60 years, as a supporter who pays to see my team I have the right to cheer or boo my team at anytime during the game to express my satisfaction or dissatisfaction with how they are playing.Nobody will ever change my mind on that.Chelmsford Swimmer wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2024 11:44 pm

Re: Fans booing their own players
On the subject of booing it was a very pleasurable experience to join in with the Sevco fans booing their team off at HT at the LC semi a few weeks back.
However, having being booed by the whole stadium they came back to beat us 2-1. There's a lesson there for all of us. I think.
