exactly. this kind of thing should be factored in when clubs give a contract to an international player. Supposedly they'll benefit from the the "international skills". The onus should be on them too.Story of O wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 7:41 pm But if those 3 players were injured or suspended the game would be played. And what happens if a club has 3 players in the Africa Cup of Nations

Last time I went to Walthamstow it was just 7 quid and take your own cans in. Was during Covid so probably a tenner now, which is more than palatable. Very friendly (just like the O’s) and only another 30 minutes walk trotting over to BR so I get a bit of exercise on the way there and back. Suspect I’ll be more of a regular there next season.banqo wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 11:52 pmBeen going to my local non league team (Brightlingsea Regent), have a few beers, cost £6 to get in and costs me nothing in travel.claptonCasual wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 1:50 pm The big winners will be non-league clubs. Whilst watching your local step 3 or step 4 club has some merit, it’s not a like for like replacement for watching Orient.

what it lacks in quality, it makes up for in being part of an exclusive club of ex-boarders who just won’t shut up about how much better it is going to watch a local non league team

And what you do have in Non League football is 100%
commitment from all the players. I also feel part of the club, speak to the chairman and staff, ok average attendance is around 250, BUT I've been really enjoying it. Seriously thinking of getting a season ticket there next season. I've supported the O's since 1966, but feel very disconnected this season. I've always watched local non league football from Walthamstow Avenue, Leytonstone, Ilford etc and have always enjoyed it.

Yeah, that’s a great example of the sort of nonsense they come out with.
Though you’re getting very close to caricature with the “these players are more committed than actual professionals” stuff - keep it subtle, eh?

Absolute nonsense.
Steps 1-3 are scattered with players with as much talent as those in L1 and L2, but just without the right mindset to make it.

I like non-League and a lot of them make incredible efforts to play alongside holding down outside jobs but to pretend that sometimes players don't phone it in or occasionally "aren't fit to wear the shirt" after they've been pumped 7-0 is just silly.

To be fair, I’ve been regularly going to see a team in a deprived area of North London, who don’t have much success, and I totally agree that their players sometimes seem to not give a toss

Where did I say talent, I said 100% commitment. Have you ever seen a non league game?? And besides the team I watch are step 4. Anything else you'd like me to correct you about??Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2024 10:27 amAbsolute nonsense.

What do you think “the right mindset to make it” refers to?
The fact is that what you see as “100% commitment” is simply “im close enough to the pitch to see the expressions on the players faces, and for the experience to be a bit more visceral”

Step 4 is still a very respectable standard but accept you won’t find as many ‘Could’ve beens’, although there are still some.banqo wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2024 10:37 amWhere did I say talent, I said 100% commitment. Late tackles and swearing at refs are not signs of 100% commitment. 100% commitment is giving everything in training 3/4/5 times a week, listening, understanding and taking onboard instructions, the additional sessions in the gym to be able to compete physically, the mindnumbingly dull repetition of routine tasks until they can be done to perfection without thinking, the ability to overcome setbacks and rejections along the way, the sacrificing of social events etc.

Used to go and see my local non league side from time to time. Then they put the ticket price up by £2 a game in a single season. Refuse to pay £11 a game when they were still only a mid table side with little chance of promotion.

You must see different games to me then, that's assuming you've watched any! But then again you seem to know everything there is to be known. Surprised someone hasn't made you an offer to manage a team.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2024 10:56 amStep 4 is still a very respectable standard but accept you won’t find as many ‘Could’ve beens’, although there are still some.banqo wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2024 10:37 amWhere did I say talent, I said 100% commitment. What is it that you are saying you observe in these games that you take as evidence of greater commitment than the commitment you perceive in professionals?

Well according to a lot posters on here, we have players who aren't 100% committed.

I’m not asking whether other people moan about perceived level of commitment - I’m asking what you see in non league games that makes you think they are “100% committed” in a way that professional footballers don’t match

And from all players, too. Every single one of them.
