Who’s lying re our budget?

Post by PKM »

Marshall Taylor in a recent podcast said out budget is 12-14th in L1
Ritchie said in the interview today we’ve got one of the smallest budgets in L1.
They both can’t be right
Which is it?
Is RW massively underperforming against budget or have we been fed a load of lies and our budget is a low end one?
Certainly the recruitment in the summer smacks of a low end budget, not mid table, so I would tend to think RW is correct.
If so, why are the bod lying to us?
Think the bod need to clarify.

Think RW needs to have a long hard think about football not budgets.

As RW said they have backers who want to back the club. Is that a dig at NT and co not backing him because they want out?

The board have taken us as far as they can. They are business men who won’t keep pumping money into a bottomless pit.we are currently in a league where money and playing budgets are above our means. RW is now realiseing he will not achieve his ambitions at this club. He is only here due to loyalty to the board. Whether he will be successful at a bigger club is debatable. When we cannot even secure a goalkeeper on a contract is worrying. The quality of the loanees for this league is unacceptable Whether this is down to RW or Lingy or perhaps are scouts are not experienced enough to know players we can attract for L1. The coming January transfer is going to be critical in keeping us in this league. Loanees such as Hemmings. Perkins , Warrington should be returned to their clubs if possible .The trouble is we need 2 good strikers who can keep us in this league. Cannot see we can spend money to achieve this. Also it looks like Southend will send back Moncur in January which means we have to pay his wages worrying times

Maybe we don’t have the money to get Wellens the players needs for his system. I feel if they were played to their strengths we might play better

Yeah I think this could be at the core of it — I think Richie has the talent and desire to win at this level and probably higher, but is probably too stubborn/proud to play pragmatically with the aim of a mid-table finish. While it’s frustrating right now, they’re the very qualities that got us promoted.

Ultimately I think the board have big long-term ambitions but smaller short-term ones, and this mismatch (between the board’s short term ambitions and Richie’s) is what’s led to our current predicament.

It’s obviously hard to know what goes on behind the scenes, but it does look like they’ve overpromised and underdelivered, by some margin, in terms of giving him the squad he needs to be competitive. It could cost the club dearly.

As for us — I think Nigel and the rest of the board have delivered a big chunk of what they set out to achieve, and fast — from National League and financial oblivion to L1 is a massive achievement and one they should be proud of.

If they’ve had enough, I hope they have the grit/determination to at least consolidate the club’s L1 status before moving on — seems to me that this is one of Nigel’s core goals, and he seems like he takes his responsibility as chairman pretty seriously. I’m not optimistic, but I’m hopeful

I believe RW he made it very clear that we have one of the smallest budgets , therefore we cannot bring in the quality of players needed to progress in this league.Nigel has done wonders for our club but clearly he lacks the short term vision and the money necessary to take us any further, we are in danger of relegation.
I believe that RW will be off unless a massive injection of money is available by the January window and to be honest I don’t blame him.All the club spout about is long term plans and put the club in danger with insufficient funds for the short term, something gotta change and fast.

A clever line that praises the opposition and also has a veiled dig closer to home at the same time was how I took it

You have to feel sorry for Nigel, here we are, two leagues up from when he took over, losing £60k a week & the fans au t happy!
What’s happened to the team that put in a good performance against Posh in the first 45 mins?
Seems to have vanished.

I wonder if Marshall was including the money we’re still paying towards Moncur and Pigott’s wages out on loan. If so , if you take away that money it drops our budget lower for the rest of the squad . It reminds me of a politicians answer. It’s the truth but it doesn’t tell the whole story . Basically I think Richie is right. You only need to look at our awful Summer recruitment to know that
