Richie is able to make us competitive at this level with the budget provided.

The problem is the budget provided is resulting in a £4m ish loss each year and the current investors don’t have the funds or the stomach - not sure which - to keep on coughing that up each year.

Stop being so bloody sensible otherwise you will have to be banned. This board thrives on conspiracies and rumours!

In all seriousness this is not new news. The board have talked about new investment for 6+ months now, with the long term aim of building a new ground. Its now more of what's not been said. You can only attract serious investment money if you have plans that are more than just thin air. It would not surprise me to learn if some progress had been made in having the opportunity to acquire a site capable of handling such a ground development. Far from a done deal I'm sure (we don't have the money for a start) but there may well be outline agreements in principle from organisations like the local authority backing developments on sites. The money men have to have a plan they can evidence to attract investment.

If it’s not new news, makes you wonder why Sky bothers to run the story. If you look closely, you will see a reference to a full or partial sale. Whichever it is, it will mean Nigel’s influence will be reduced, and if there’s any conspiracy here then it’s amongst people who aren’t ready to face what that might mean for the Club.

That's how I see it too, previously NT has been quite adamant any new investment would have him retain the controlling stake. What's been released via Sky suggests that's now up for grabs to someone with enough dough.

On a purely practical note if someone comes in and finances a new stadium they'd want something in return.

Based on this summer's recruitment I wouldn't say that's definitely the case. Budget has gone up but quality of the squad gone down if anything.

New, fresh investment does mean dilution of interest. What else can it mean? If someone wants full control and has what Nigel believes to be the clubs best interests at heart then I'm sure that at his age he's happy to step aside.

Nigel has taken us as far as he can , and a fantastic job he’s done as well.
Now, if we have aspirations of being a Championship club we need a new ground and new investors.
Going to need someone with deep pockets, prepared to chuck £100m at it.

"Wanted - Very Very rich bloke looking to relinquish a decent proportion of their fortune up a wall.
An almost cast-iron guarantee of no financial return on the "investement" whatsover.

Benefits- a vanity project that will please a few web-saps on the LOFC message board. Some of whom don't even attend matches or put a penny into the club."

I bet they're queuing round the block

That’s for Nigel to sort out before we stagnate in League 1 or at worst get relegated, clearly no in depth future planning for what has been obvious for ages.

NT himself had said they had the 6-year plan to get to L1 but having done that to a tee they've then had to try and figure out what the plan is for what comes next.

To some extent they were likely surprised that the L1 goal was achieved as quickly as it was (thank you JE and RW) and really the only way forward is with significantly more cash, hence that recent announcement

Amazing to think that anyone ‘invests’ in football, it really is a big black hole and owners just chuck money it.

We have reached an inevitable point in our history. Leave the current ownership structure as is and we struggle to stay in L1. New ownership brings opportunity and lots of risks, we will have to hope for the best...

With a new ground theres no reason why we cant aspire to reach the top. Just look at Brentford and Brighton.

Weren't Brighton entirely dependent on Tony Bloom's generosity - rather than being, say, a profitable football club - until they hit on selling players to Chelsea for 50 times their value?

I dont know, but they had a sh*t ground and now they dont and now they're up there. Once you're up there you're more likely to unearth higher quality players who can be sold for megabucks.

And meanwhile while we wait for it possibly happen in the next 5 to 10 years with no money to buy the quality of players needed we either stagnate in League 1 or possibly are relegated.

Sounds like business as usual. We've climbed up two divisions to get back where we were. With our current capacity, League One is about the right level for us anyway.

Says he has a 6 year plan to reach league 1, hits that target on schedule, and yet you're implying he would have been surprised at meeting that target, with no thinking given to what would happen after?

That's what he was saying yes, they got to L1 then had to try and figure out "now what" hence only recently drawing up the next plan. Does seem odd but that's where we are hence floundering with a poor squad and still racking up losses

The level of rich that football attracts now don't need to invest, it's a plaything / prestige project. Once you have hundreds of millions or more needs to be something interesting to keep amused.

Kinda - although the two are very closely linked - he (and Benham's) wheeze of data-driven player trading was there from the very beginning.

Now everyone's at it, but of course that will only enable you to keep up - the edge has long since gone. So when some Os fans got excited when smooth-talking Mr Parry rolled up in 2021, that ship had already sailed. If Orient are to enjoy success on the scale of Brighton and Brentford, we're going to have to find a genuine innovation of our own.
