Are these rearranged reduced priced fixtures devaluing season cards?

Post by The Reverend »

Haven’t done the calculations but surely every time a game is re-arranged and the price dropped to a tenner isn’t that reducing the money saved by season card holders?

Every time the price of a match is dropped the average cost of games across the season drops too, whilst the average price per game a season card holder has paid stays the same.

Midweek night games should be cheaper as standard than weekend 3 o’clocks

It will be interesting to see if the experience this year has any impact on the number of season ticket renewals for next season.

Sadly I think it will. I go with a group of mates (look at me claiming to have friends). There are 8 of us and all have Season Cards (majority 20+ years) and although all of us are originally from Leyton only 4 live within half and hour to 40 minutes drive. 2 live about an hour and a half away, 1 2 and a half hours and 1 more than 3.

Saturdays have always been the staple for the arrangements we have. Meet in one of the traditional local hostelries, attend the game, sod off home. Saturday morning available for those furthest away to get to London and evenings to return. The social aspect of a Saturday which we have is in addition to just attending games to see our Team is part of the allure of putting up with poor driving conditions, the cold and the dark in winter.

The increased number of Tuesdays makes it pretty much impossible (3 of the 4 furthest away still work) to attend anyway and much of the valued social interaction is lost. Based on work finish times and the need for some rest before work the following day ours are part of the empty seats on a Tuesday.

We have all traditionally purchased season tickets/cards to support the Club but sense that only those who attend most if not all.of the games are now being seen as the valuable and true supporters. If the powers that be think they will replace any if us who decide that enough is enough with a queue of keen and anxious to attend local regulars I personally think they are wrong.

What is clear that at least half of us are already thinking seriously about what we could do to socialise more readily on a Saturday rather than shell.out for Season Cards for a fixture list that is not the one published before the season. Sure games have always been.postponed but Sky, International Weekends etc are clearly changing the traditional balance away from Saturdays.

I'm pretty certain 2 will not renew, it could be more. What the overall effect will be remains to be seen but I think we are on the slippery slope. "When Saturday Comes" is losing its relevance.

Doubtful. Reduced prices for less attractive matches are standard practice. The English Football League and National League permit clubs to run promotional reduced prices either 2 or 3 times a season. The motivation is something outlandish like making football more accessible.

Because constantly moving fixtures to weekday evenings makes football more accessible…

That's pure straw man, my comment was about pricing.

I think we’ve been unlucky to have a scheduled home game each time there’s an International break this side of Christmas.
Clubs should be made to play on and if they have 2 or 3 international players then that’s what the squad is for.
On top of this we have the double whammy of increased ticket prices and Sky TV, it’s no wonder fans are getting pi$$ed off.

There’s way too much televised football on TV IMHO, some nights there are two live games, don’t the club owners realise that this will affect the number of fans willing to pay £35 to watch League One Football after having paid for transport and food etc.

The EFL Sky deal has done that. So stupid that it cuts down the number of 3pm KOs, inconveniencing fans, in order to supposedly protect attendances with the archaic broadcast blackout.

It seems that most league one games are being postponed on international weekends, I have to wonder why they bothered scheduleing the games for these dates at all.

How many times has the sky deal been the cause? I thought it was due to internationals.

Feel we should play the games. If we had 3 players injured we would have to cope with that. Same goes if we we had 3 players in the African Cup of Nations

Your comment was about pricing for “less attractive matches”. Matches that are moved to Tuesday evening fit in that category, as evidenced by the fact that this exact thing (a game moved to a tues night making it “less attractive” and therefore the price being reduced) literally just happening.

The first bunch of games with the early / late KOs plus there's some later this year too from memory and potentially more to follow (I guess depends on where the interesting fixtures at either end of the table appear)

Add that to the existing international breaks and you have the end result of much reduced Saturday 3pm KOs

The league should up the number of international calls ups required to postpone a game. I dunno what it is now but 2-3 is silly considering there’s lots of players from league one called up now.
