Ok, I take it back, Dunnem was right.Dohnut wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 4:47 pmNo whoopee from me. Just find it amusing at people trying to excuse/minimise the current farcical state of the Labour party. 100 days in and everything that could go wrong, has. I use the word shambles. I’m being kind. Not just my view when you look at various polls. People need to face up to the shambolic start of the Labour years. One hope is these cock-ups soften the next budget a little as they try and get some credibility back.
Starmer is just out of his depth.

I'm not sensing much outrage in that article....?faldO wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 2:42 pmThis is faux outrage about faux outrage...Stowaway wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 9:30 am Seeing as Dohnut is a bit confused, here’s a Robert Peston piece that might help put him straight on a few things here.
There seems to be significant faux outrage from Tory leadership candidates Cleverly and Tugendhat about the Starmer government's transfer of the Chagos islands to Mauritius.
Official sources tell me the transfer would have happened in materially the same
way at roughly the same time if Sunak had somehow won the election.
The point is that the transfer was being negotiated on the recent Tory government's watch - including by Cleverly as foreign secretary and then by Cameron - and the deadline was in effect set by Washington.
.
.
.
If anyone in the Tory party wants to know the nitty gritty of all this, possibly they could ask for an introduction from the former minister Lord Frost - because his spouse Harriet Matthews has been the lead official negotiator for the foreign office on the Chagos treaty with Mauritius.
And some of Peston's statements, like the one about Cameron, are misleading.

Re: Labour Watch
Is Morgan McSweeney for Starmer what Dominic Cummings was for Boris Johnson?
Both impressed their respective party leader as having the narrative to win, both determined to be the dominant advisor to the point of wanting to run the government (and the PMs being quite weak and devoid of a coherent vision and strategy).

Re: Labour Watch
Mcsweeny seems to be quite a vicious manipulator ...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morgan_McSweeney
Seems that he has improved on his efficacy since 2015 when he ran the Labour party leadership campaign for Liz Kendall: she came last with just 4% of the vote.

The ones even his own party members are talking about. The ones that have seen his popularity fall faster than any election winning PM in history. Those ones.

Re: Labour Watch
I must confess this Labour government has shocked me . I would have never thought Labour would attack pensioners by taking away the winter fuel allowance . If we have a very cold winter resulting in a high elderly death toll there will be Hell to pay . Incidentally Labour gave away £11.6Billion to other countries for climate change and another £9Billion went on public sector pay raises . £20.6Billion right there . There's your black hole .

I mean, you could consider it a good policy to reduce Tory voters and save us some money on pensions?RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 9:44 am I must confess this Labour government has shocked me . No issue with pay rises. Though some are a tad generous. But helping fund these by putting the lives of the poorest pensioners at risk is a fecking disgrace. Scum. Means test by all means. Many pensioners don’t need the allowance, many like me donate it to charity. But they are hitting the poorest and most vulnerable people, something even the Unions don’t agree with. Nor many decent Labour MPs. It’s a disgrace. And deep down we all know it.

But I’m fecking upset for those thousands of old folk who are praying for a warm winter. Anybody not able to spare them a thought is as low as it gets. Listen to past Labour comments and figures. Absolute scandalous. Combine that with endless bribes and it is sickening. Especially given what they used to say about the Tories. Hypocrisy at its finest. Well done the Unions for speaking up for them.

All this whining because you’ve lost out on a measly £300 is ridiculous. Talk about selfish.

The only ship torpedoed during the war was the Belgrano

By the same token are those richer people getting pay rises, like train drivers also selfish? They want extra so why should vulnerable pensioners get less.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Thu Oct 10, 2024 7:45 amThey’re not hitting the poorest,Dohnut wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 9:48 pmNo issue with pay rises. By Labours own analysis a few years ago, people could die. Heat or eat. Some of the most vulnerable are impacted by this. Selfish? That is stupidity beyond belief.Has to be a wind up. Even the Unions want it changed. That decision is without doubt one of the lowest, scum laden decisions a Government has made in many a year. Labour Scum. Whilst they all have their snouts in the trough, enjoying the freebie high life, some older folk will sit and freeze. Scum. And we all know it.

THE MOST VULNERABLE WILL STILL GET THE ALLOWANCE
SCUM Labour trying to fix the economy, taking £300 from millionaire pensioners trying to heat their big houses they bought for £5k.
