Dying planet
Why do the usual suspects call this a hoax and a con.
Who gains by issuing the information so it can be acted upon, humanity.
Who gains from calling it a hoax, fossil fuel companies etc and their political mouthpieces.

Re: Dying planet
A basic understanding of our environment and how it has changed irreversibly in the last 60 years will tell you all you need to know. And despite all the soundbites ,the World will never be as it was. No amount of rewilding , or talk of net zero will make a difference. The majority do not believe the truth and very few will accept that they will have to do without the things we all take for granted. Overpopulation, over consumption , the continued destruction of the environment, ignorance and waste , what a time to be alive.

Re: Dying planet
So many stupid people like to show how “they won’t be fooled” by climate change.
We’ve even got some on here. You can’t cure stupid, unfortunately.

Re: Dying planet
So whens the climate apocalypse?
It'll take a few major catastophies in the western world to focus minds.

Re: Dying planet
Therein lies the problem. Even after a catastrophe or two there will still be lie upon lie from those with vested interests saying it’s just natural, weather changes, nothing to see here.

Re: Dying planet
Long term fixes too difficult and not convinced they'd work if emissions disappeared overnight. We'll muddle through and survive until we figure out a technological solution

Re: Dying planet
It’s happening as we speak. Flooding , fires destroying Southern Europe , melting ice caps , droughts and water shortages in the Med. That’s the point. Climate catastrophes are and have been happening, unnoticed by most , for yearsLong slender neck wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2024 5:04 pm So whens the climate apocalypse?

The great filter. Humans, like all sentient beings wipe themselves out before reaching a certain intelligence. If the climate is our great filter then hopefully what comes after us are a little more compassionate.

Re: Dying planet
Climate denial bingo.
There's no climate change / global warming
If there is, it's just cyclical - nothing to do with human activity.
It was hotter when there was volcanoes
There's no point doing anything here 'cos the Chinese / Indians will keep burning coal
Electric vehicles are a con - with little babies being forced down mines to get the stuff for batteries.
Climate science itself is a con - climate scientists have to say that stuff to keep getting funding.
The last one, in particular, always gets me. Somehow the "business" of warning about the climate emergency is somehow doing it all to make money (whereas, of course, the fossil fuel chaps are just doing their thing for the benefit of mankind).
I do think, slightly more seriously, that all our governments seem to be trying to address the issue by sticking in regulation and hoping "the market" will come up with the solutions. Attempting to solve a problem caused by rampant capitalism by more capitalism, it seems.
Example - you could address some of the problems caused by private cars by improving public transport so well that people would barely ever need private cars - which they could hire rather than own? OR you could address it by saying - "no more petrol cars after 2030" and sitting back hoping that the car industry can come up with electric / other solutions that won't impoverish everyone. You know which one "we" took.

Yes but just not disasterous enough yet I'm afraid. I guess people just dont believe theres anything we can do about the weather.George M wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2024 6:24 pmIt’s happening as we speak. Re: Dying planet
I had / have no opinion on the vaccine. It’s personal choice. I objected strongly to ridiculous lockdown rules.Long slender neck wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 1:57 pmSo you're an old scientist? Re: Dying planet
Strange angle from which to attack the climate crisis but he’s right - the amount of grassroots pitches that are unplayable each weekend is a massive problem. Too dry in the summer, waterlogged in the winter, and it’s not just down to PC or H&$ gone mad.
