Have been reading with a bit of dismay some of the comments in this forum. Seems some folk are only now waking up to the economic realities of contemporary football. Money is clearly an issue with the Os right now, and we could do better with more dosh, buy better players, and so on. But do you rather do what you can with what we've got, hope that we'll settle in League One, and maybe next year are in a better position, or get sold to some bored millionaire who'll totally screw up the club (Reading, anyone; previous owners...)? Isn't that what the Premier League is about?

Just some thoughts.

I don't think we should chuck money at chasing promotion
or staying in league one. Hopefully next season the financial rules will bring a bit of sanity to things

I respect your view but imo it’s not how much money you have but getting the right players in and how they blend in. There are plenty of players out there that are good enough and don’t cost the earth. Your post could inadvertently highlighted how poor our scouting is or how poor Wellens decision making has been this season.

No, I'm with you there Monkey Boy. The scouting and the tactical approach has been poor. I was addressing specific posts in other threads, that seem to embrace a "money by all means necessary" approach to our future. We certainly can do with more money, but I wouldn't take it if it meant losing everything the Os are, just to chase more trophies or playing at a higher league.

Yes mate there’s something about watching and supporting the O’s,you can have a good moan(especially me) and it puts a smile on your face when they win. I’d get fed up with watching Man City it would be far to boring

I think the sad thing is like many other supporters I will never be around if the club was to reach the dizzy heights of the premiership. I was just too young to remember them being in the old first division for a season,and while Bertie big bananas still still pulls the purse strings that ain’t going to happen anytime soon.

RW has been great for us, he now needs to grapple with what players he has been given and make us a competent L1 side.

LSN its the opposite. According to Kent, the new financial rules have a bias towards ground capacity. Thats why the board want a 15-18,000 capacity ground. At present, based on capacity, we rank as a L2 side - and it will become more and more difficult to break out of divisions based on these new rules.

Gate receipts, not capacity, no? But even then, looking at league 2 average attendances, we'd probably be a bottom 4 league 1 team if looking at the entire 92 team pyramid. This season could be a bit of a reality check after 6 years of more or less continuous improvement. Expectations seem to have grown out of proportion to our actual size.

I think it was RW who was quoted last season as saying with a tight budget every signing needs to count... well this summer's transfer activity certainly hasn't followed that mantra.

Signing a second loan keeper because the first loan keeper shaky tells its own story, as does half of the summer signings barely worthy of a sub bench place let alone starting spot.

As said elsewhere I think it's shown the limitations of the current recruitment setup and something needs to change further up in the club to bring a fresh approach. Expecting Richie to work miracles every season isn't a sustainable way to work.
