Attention Brexiteers (Only) - Did you want a No-Deal-Brexit
We're hearing a lot from many of those keen on Brexit that what they, and the 17.4 million people who voted Leave, really wanted all along, was a no-deal Brexit - the kind that many are now cheerleading for PM Johnson to deliver, "do or die", "come-what-may", on 31st October. It strikes me that one of the reasons that Parliament has been "messing about" these past 3 years has been that May was finding out that delivering all the things the Leave campaign had promised was turning out to be a great deal more complicated and difficult than a simple "Let's Leave" (whatever her personal views had been prior to the Referendum) - this would of course have been an absolute waste of time if the voters had (as is now being touted) just wanted to get on with it and leave at any cost.
It's obviously impossible for anyone to truly know what sort of a Brexit anyone else had in mind back in 2016, but let's see if we can get a representative sample of Leavers to let us know whether what they wanted then was No Deal - or something else, and also, maybe, what do they want now - No Deal or something else.
If you were a Remainer back then, please don't answer this thread - I'm really trying to get a good idea (albeit using a self-selecting sample) of what Leavers meant by Leave, both back then, and now (if it's changed at all). Please comment below and I'll revisit this post and update the scores as they come in.
Scores:
2016
No Deal - 8
Other Leave - 1
Now
No Deal - 9
Other Leave - 0
Scores correct up to post 68
For clarity, everyone, the possible answers to this thread are as follows:
No Deal Brexit 2016 & No Deal Brexit now
Another Brexit 2016 & No Deal Brexitl now
No Deal Brexit 2016 & Another Brexit now
Another Brexit 2016 & Another Brexitl now
or
Remain in 2016 (in which case don't bother because I'm not trying to re-run the Referendum - I'm trying to get into how popular among leave voters a no-deal brexit is and was)

yes. what is wrong with governing our own country.
we had a democratic vote the result was leave. there was no mention
of leaving with a deal.

So would it be fair to say you were "No deal" then, and you're still "No deal" now?

I voted Leave before Mr Cameron had finished saying the word “ ... dum”.
Leave on 31/10 at any cost ... simples.
‘Project Fear’ will be consigned to history’s rubbish bin.
C’mon you Os!

Spike can you ask them what they think No Deal means. Answers such as "what is wrong with governing our own country" and "Leave on 31/10 at any cost" are just phrases. If you are going to p*ss all over 16m people at least provide a better explanation.

I'd hope that everyone should be clear by now what no deal means (even if they might disbelieve some of the predictions) I'd like to try to keep it to "did you / do you want "no-deal" Vs "something else if at all possible.
And to be clear - there's been a hundred threads to allow people to "explain themselves" - I'm not after an explanation - just a note as to what they wanted then / want now.

I voted leave because I have spent years looking at the buffoons in parliament and never understood why anyone would want to add another layer of buffoonery courtesy of the EU.I think I have been vindicated. I did not vote for a deal. I voted for an absence of government and absolute freedoms.

I'll take that as - you were "No deal" then, and you're still "No deal" now

Re: Attention Brexiteers (Only) - Did you want a No-Deal-Brexit
I voted to leave, and obviously realised that would be either a no deal leave or some kind of deal leave, for it really wasn’t rocket science to figure that one out.
Given the May deal on offer didn’t feel much like leaving to me, and some of the alternatives bandied about even less so, e.g. stay in Customs Union and/ or Single Market, then the only current realistic option to leave seems to be to leave with no deal, in which case so be it, it’s about time the referendum result was implemented by those who promised to do so, and we desperately need to draw a line under this and get on with something else.
The no deal scenario will exist until we reach some kind of deal, it doesn’t imply that there will never be some kind of deal done, only that there is no deal at the current time. But that of course is blindingly obvious too.

I'll take this on trust - I thought you were a Remainer, but if you say you voted Leave in 2016 I'll add this to the count as a "Something Else"CreamofSumYungGai wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2019 5:38 pm I am a Lexiteer.

I'll take this as a Something else then / No deal now
I hope that's not taking liberties - I'm trying to keep it to binary (but within Leave) for both 2016 / Now. Otherwise I don't get any % view and we might as well just read everyone's varying explanation as to what they saw the choice was.

No.
Irrespective of how you voted an no deal is wrong.

So how - within the confines I've requested (binary No Deal / Another Brexit then / now) - how do you want me to record your preference (unless you were a Remainer in 2016, in which case please see the 3rd paragraph in the opening post)

Wto gatt 24. We are almost certain to get this, if we cannot agree a new European treaty.
