Ratings (v Exeter)
Don’t suppose anyone can really be bothered after that. Nobody deserves higher than a 5 anyway.
The summer transfer business really is showing up to be as appalling as I thought it was.
Some of these loans we’ve bought in are truly awful. Donley and Perkins are cack, I’d send the pair of them back. Why on earth we bought in a second loanee GK who can’t even get on the bench is beyond me.
Warrington looking to be a completely pointless signing. What happened to that Diallang Jaiyesimi bloke? Is he injured or has he been binned off already? He plays like James Alabi 2.0 anyway.
Dom Ball a bang average player who you don’t mind having on the bench to bring on to see out matches but that’s it. Kelman wouldn’t have been a bad option to have bought in but no way should he have been the main f*cking signing of the summer, which he has been.
Only two players who have been worthwhile additions to the squad are Clare and Currie…and the only reason Currie was bought in is because it became apparent that the master plan of sticking Sweeney in the starting line up was utterly mental after about 2 games.

Don’t normally get involved in the ratings
but no one deserves more then a 3 on
that performance..
But I’m giving myself a 10/10 for the 2 hour
drive each way to watch that performance..

Re: Ratings (v Exeter)
My ratings
Hemmings 6 - couple of great saves, one flap that went unpunished
Brown 5 - average, wild shots were never going to trouble the keeper
Beckles 7 - motm played the ball out well from the back and defended well
Simpson 5 - alright as a centre half 2, rubbish as a left 3/ left back
Currie 5 - saw a lot of the ball, didn't do much with it
Warrington 5 - played alright, not sure why he was subbed at half time
O'Neill 3 - completely anonymous
Ball 4 - lots of fouls, not a lot else
Galbraith 5 - buzzed around used the ball well generally, missed some good opportunities though
Kelman 4 - not very good, no killer instinct when given a chance
Agyei 5 - in the left backs pocket when on the right, better through the middle but lacked a bit of quality
Cooper 2 - appalling, really not seen much worse than that for years
Clare 6 - excellent, dropped too deep to get the ball for my liking, but may be down to the setup
Perkins 4 - anonymous
Graham 3 - won't run at defenders anymore making him useless
Donley 5 - nice touches, intelligent runs but no one in the team is able to see them.
Richie 3 - changed structure about 4 times and the players liked confused. I think he's asking too much of them and they're not good enough. Needs to simplify things.

It was more mad that he changed his position. He was tearing that left back apart before that.Long slender neck wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 11:50 pmFirst half all our chances went through him, so of course RW hooked him.

Re: Ratings (v Exeter)
Big rethink needed after tonight
The subs made us a lot worse
Cooper had an absolute stinker
Graham showed nothing at all
Only class player on the pitch was Galbraith, head and shoulders above the rest.
Our lack of striking options is really coming home to roost
Going to be a long old season

Re: Ratings (v Exeter)
Reminded me of the rearranged Lincoln match from last season. Appalling spectacle against bang average opposition who score one poor goal and do little else. Turgid watch, especially second half.
As others have said above, the recruitment (or lack of) is really beginning to show. As was the poor starting 11 selected last night.
Warrington is not the player we need him to me. Ball is more effective coming off the bench and OON is a shadow of the player he was at the end of last season. The subs were dreadful. Cooper is hard to surmise in words and Graham just seems a busted flush on the right hand side.
I’m neither a perpetual moaner nor a happy clapper. That was bad. Very bad. Does not augur well for the rest of the season.

Re: Ratings (v Exeter)
Writing off Warrington or Ball is crackers. We've seen before that central midfielders can take time to adapt to Wellens system, Galbraith was really inconsistent for first half of the season. Ball is easing his way back into regular football, Warrington is still a young player who we need to develop. They were still able to control the game in the first half and on another day, we'd be 2 up after 35 minutes. It happens over a 46 game season.
We are going to have issues breaking down teams who sit back if Wellens is going to mess around with our entire set up like he did in the second half. Was poor management, which inevitably leads to poor performances. Bit of a reality check after the recent run of form, not massively worried but Saturday will be a tough one.

Re: Ratings (v Exeter)
I was surprised Ball started as I didn't think he had enough minutes in his legs so soon - and I was probably right. Didn't think the combo of him and Warrington was that effective either. Not that Brown covered himself in glory in the second half.
O'Neill was anonymous and Kelman is overworked at present.
I can see how Currie failed to get a look in at Oxford. The amount of times his first touch isn't what he wants it to be calls into question Oxfords judgement to take him on in the first place.
Wellens has tinkered with how we played and both O'Neill and Agyei have gone off the boil as a result.
I've not listened to the post match interview but I'm very interested to know where Pratley is. He could have done a settling job last night. Obiero can't be showing out in training if he can't get on the pitch right now. He's good at breaking the lines - and that's what we failed to do last night.

Thing is: when Ageyi gets the ball there is a bit of a buzz about him - he doesn't aim to offload it at the first opportunity. He can unsettle defenders. Cue somebody replying ""he unsettles me."

Agree, we did need a calming influence last night. We are not good enough to rely on one touch football. Was that Galbraith who blazed over the bar just before they scored? Terrible.
